LA Times: Whites are moving back to Inglewood. There goes our neighborhood.
The LA Times ^ | 11/26/17 | Erin Aubry Kaplan

Posted on 11/26/2017 11:35:35 AM PST by Simon Green

everal years ago, a woman who lives around the corner in Inglewood told me a story common to black people who were among the first to move into once-white cities. She and her husband bought their house in 1967. Every day that summer, she said, her next-door neighbor came out on his porch, glaring. Whenever he saw her, this white man shouted not a greeting, but a question: Why are you here? In a few months, he was gone, along with pretty much every other white family on the block.

I grew up in and around Inglewood and have lived here for the last 13 years. Walking home with my dogs three weeks ago, I was approached by a young white woman who, like me, is an animal lover. Turns out she and her husband had moved into the neighborhood recently. “We like it so far,” she said brightly. Like it? I felt a rush of resentment at a remark that to her, I’m sure, was perfectly innocent. All I could think was: White folks abandoned Inglewood, and now they’re coming back with no memory or acknowledgment of all that, expecting neighborliness?

.....

The fact that whites are coming back to this once very contested space is not, I fear, evidence of the meaningful integration that has long eluded us. It’s a warning that my black community is, once again, irretrievably at risk.

I grew up in Inglewood and left in 1952. My father was transferred from North American Aviation plant to Fresno plant.
This is what I remember:
Oak Street School, Road the bus to downtown Inglewood to catch the #5 Steet Car to LA, Lived a block from Freeman Ave Now 405 Freeway. When it rained Streets would flood and dad would come home in a boat, School paper drives,
Could burn trash in backyard incinerator, used government war ration stamps to buy shoes and gas, had to turn back tooth paste tube in order to get a new tube. Hollywood Park, Watched Westerns at Inglewood Theater.... and many other good memories. But, I don’t remember seeing any colored people in Inglewood. What happened?

It’s all changing...Black gangs are all but gone, replaced mostly by working class Hispanics etc..And speaking of weather, even places like the inland empire the air is clear and visibility is often 50+ miles. Not so 30 or 40 years ago when the smog was really bad out that way.

Fifty years ago, Inglewood's white residents saw black newcomers not as neighbors but invaders, existential threats to their property values and to an ironclad social order.

The author feels the same about the whites who are moving in:

Our neighborhoods are our strength, our visibility...But today's white influx feels particularly ominous, like the worst of our bad history looping back on itself. Once again our places are tethered to what white people want, what they decide is acceptable, valuable.

>> to make moving into a black, thoroughly ungentrified neighborhood not a big deal

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gentrification

the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents

What’s the word for when change came in the other direction causing deterioration of existing properties, driving down property values?

The fact is that people prefer to live and associate with people like themselves. That preference involves language, political views, moral standards, religion and yes, skin color to name a few criteria.

That's certainly true to a large degree. Speaking on a personal basis, though, it's not completely the case.

Language? Sure. I only have a smattering of French in addition to my native tongue.

Political views? Not really an issue. I have many friends who are left of center.

Moral standards? Well, I won't associate with criminals.

Religion? Couldn't care less. I'm an atheist, but none of my friends or family are.

Skin color? Not an issue on a personal basis. I do recognize the unfortunate reality that some demographic groups (Blacks, especially) tend to have bad neighborhoods when they dominate in the United States.

Went on a quick trip a few years back, to Colorado, including Fort Morgan, where I lived as a kid.

On the street where I lived, talked with a younger gal that was Hispanic.

She said her family moved there from East Lost Angeles after the Rodney King Riots in 1992.

I have lived in the OC most of my life, and concerning LA County, the question is: “Why would I go there?”

Until 1992 it was for an occasional Raider game, but not since.

Laz quoting the author:

“The fact that whites are coming back to this once very contested space is not, I fear, evidence of the meaningful integration that has long eluded us. It’s a warning that my black community is, once again, irretrievably at risk.”

Laz’ reply:

“White is the New Ni**er.”

Can’t please that author, no matter what.

It is a rejection of God and a love of Satan. Satanists only hate—they hate other groups particularly (They live in an echo chamber only).

They are Marxist “groupers”—everyone is dehumanized and judged only by their “class” or skin color and by their sexual acts, and the more vile, the more they mock God and his Goodness, the better the Left loves them.

Schools had Marxist satanist weaponized curricula put into even kindergarten to force their irrational evil religion of hate with warped ideas of “diversity” and “multiculturalism” so schools could group children and embed hate for others. Love for “The Other” only occurs in mature adults-——and these socialists are fixated in latency—at the age of narcissism and self-love where the “other’ is always hated and rejected. Children are conditioned and brainwashed so they only can use emotions, never the intellect, and so they have no virtue and love Satan (lies).

Move out - “white flight”

Move in - “Gentrification”

People say black culture is hyper-masculine but that’s wrong; it’s FEMINIZED.

Who says do it one way, and when you do, you’re wrong. But reverse what you do and you’re wrong AGAIN.

Women, right..? THAT is black culture

Who has a fight, but then it SMOULDERS for months, even years, with the parties spoiling for revenge.

Women, right? No, blacks.

Black guys LOVE exotic hats and shoes are to die for —LITERALLY, in many cases.

Don’t be fooled by the sports and brawn:

DA HOOD IS FEMINIZED.

They lied. Compared to the blacks in general, Hispanics work and former black areas which are now mostly Hispanic, are much safer than it was decades earlier.

Blacks out west had a hard time getting along...In ‘65 they couldn’t get alone with the jew store owners so they burned much of them out. In ‘92 LA riots, they burned out many of the Asian store owners etc...After that, I believe most people just got sick and tired of their bull shit and was a big factor in many black folks leaving the state the past few decades.

Grew up in Hawthorne. Went to a private grade school in Inglewood, across the street(Prairie) from old Hollywood Park in the late 50’s, early 60’s. School I went to had various kids of color. We had a great time. Snuck under the school fence early in the morning before class and went over to the Park to see the horses work-out. If we were lucky a groom would allow us to walk a horse during it’s cool down. Played in the field where the Forum now stands. The neighborhood was extremely safe, could walk everywhere without worry. That started to change after the Watts riots, accelerated by the influx of gangs. By the 80’s Inglewood was no longer the place of my childhood but had become a dangerous place for nearly everyone. Even as a ‘brown’ kid, I didn’t go into Inglewood much after 1970 or so as the changes were very apparent.....

Wait until the new Football Stadium is built in Inglewood - prices will shoot up like West Hollywood. All of the crap property around LAX will explode in price. Hope Randy’s Donuts can survive.

” But, I don’t remember seeing any colored people in Inglewood. What happened?”

Well, after the Watts Riots.......people moved.

In Summer College breaks I worked at the Texaco Station at
Century and Inglewood. In the early 70’s I enjoyed living at
the Islander Apts. in Inglewood. I also worked for Johnson Bros. tile as a setter in construction.

Life was good ., when it slid......it was a fast slide.
Faster than people leaving Detroit in the 70’s .

Yep, Glad to hear you made it out with time to Spare.

They complain when we leave, they complain when we come back. Though I’m not sure why anyone would want to live there.

You’re probably right. But personally, I would not buy near a big stadium due to all the traffic, noise etc, associated with that type of venue.

Most of those black people in black neighborhoods are renters. They do not even own the cracks in the sidewalk. A lot of them could have bought houses down there but they chose to rent instead. Now there is a premium on any land that is not too far away from down town. That means the renters need to start looking for another place to go where there is affordable rent, like out in the desert and in places like Las Vegas.

Well, the property values would not have gone down if white people hadn’t have fled; and one of the reasons at least some — not all, but some — of the white people fled were bad memories of black people who had not been “good neighbors” in other places they had lived. Black people who could afford to move there, moved into Inglewood. If the white neighbors had reasoned, “If they could afford to move here, let’s not panic.” Some white people didn’t panic, but some white people did. Now, many of the white people who panicked felt justified, telling stories of earlier in their family’s history, when they either watched their neighborhoods deteriorate or watched the values of their houses plummet. That’s my point: people always have their reasons. Some white people were bigots, some weren’t; some black people are bigots; some aren’t. THIS black woman IS a bigot, just as SOME of the white people who fled Inglewood fifty years ago also were bigots.
