Playing Devil’s Advocate here. I think her goal is to make these stores go away, not make them easier to rob. By eliminating the barriers, she’s hoping they’ll close. She, rightly or wrongly, sees them as a blight on her community. (I don’t live there, so I don’t know). There may be a racial element to it as well, since only Koreans seem to be willing and able to run these kind of stores in her ‘community’.

About 35 years ago I was with a group that traveled to Kansas City. We didn’t know where we were and stopped at a 7-11. They buzzed in only a few at a time. The clerk was in a bullet-proof glass/plastic enclosure. Purchases were placed in a large drawer and passed through to the clerk to ring up. Money passed through a trough in the glass and the purchases returned to you. He then buzzed us out. I have lived a sheltered life. It’s the only time I’ve seen such a setup.

I think you're right. Looking into it, it appears that these businesses skirt various zoning and licensing laws by operating in a gray area where they're not really a bar, but not really a restaurant either. They are primarily in the business of selling cheap 40 oz. cans of high-alcohol malt liquor to black men and she's trying to drive them out.

I had a very similar experience in Baltimore 25 years ago. I went to a KFC on Greenmount ave.

Bullet proof glass in front of the counter, you ordered through a speaker, and they had a clear cylinder where they rotated your food out to you.

This KFC was run by, staffed, and patronized by 99% BLACK people.

The only white person was me.

I ate my food and got the hell out of there.

Not sure if Greenmount has been gentrified nowadays, but it was very ghetto back then.

The bulletproof glass was there to protect the black workers from black criminals.

This "lady" is bat$hit crazy.

Nah...not really...you just haven't been robbed and had your ass shot off by every third customer.

Try to run one of these stores in one of these Dindu Nuffin neighborhoods...without the precautions.

After the third robbery, if you're still alive, you'll be putting up twice what the one you were in had.

I know...I've had to spend some time in E.St.Louis, Chicago, the ghetto of KC...a few other places.

I don't blame them a damned bit.
