Flynn coordinated Russia call with senior transition official, prosecutors say
The Hill ^ | December 1, 2017 | Katie Bo Williams

Posted on 12/01/2017 9:17:26 AM PST by Pinkbell

Former national security advisor Michael Flynn spoke with a "senior official" in President’s Trump's transition team at the Mar-a-Lago resort to discuss what he should communicate to the Russian ambassador in a highly-scrutinized series of phone calls in December of 2016, according to federal prosecutors.

Flynn and the senior officials discussed both the recently implemented U.S. sanctions on Russia, as well as the fact that they did not want Russia to escalate friction between the two nations, lawyers on special counsel Robert Mueller's team told a federal judge Friday.

After the discussion, Flynn telephoned the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. Afterwards, he called the senior transition official and reported the sanctions discussion, prosecutors said.

Kislyak later followed up with Flynn and affirmed that Russia would moderate its response to the sanctions, put in place by then-President Obama. Flynn communicated that exchange to other transition officials, prosecutors said.

Flynn on Friday pleaded guilty to one count of providing false statements to federal investigators, thereby admitting to the charges made by Mueller's prosecutors.

According to court documents filed by Mueller, Flynn lied when he told investigators that he did not ask Kislyak to "refrain from escalating the situation" in response to sanctions that Obama had levied on the Russian Federation.

Flynn also lied, the counsel said, when Flynn said he did not ask the ambassador to either delay or defeat a related U.N. Security Council vote.   Prosecutors told Judge Rudolph Contreras that Flynn was told by the senior member of Trump transition team to reach out to other countries to influence the U.N. vote, in an effort to delay or defeat the resolution.

Flynn has always been a loose cannon and a nut ball. I’m sure he’s angling for an immunity deal that includes other issues like his unregistered lobbying efforts. Apparently, he’s been quiet the busy beltway influence peddling beaver since the kenyan fired him. Russia, Turkey, etc. Anything for a buck.

Our local Putinits loved him because of his cozy relationship with KGB Vlad. I have no doubt now we’ll see that Flynn will do whatever Mueller wants of him. That’s just his MO. It’s time to abandon any misconceptions that Flynn is a good guy. He isn’t.

This is media bait. Flynn’s crime has nothing to do with collusion. He was simply doing the job all new administrations do. He reached out to the Russians. If there was real collusion he would have been charged with treason of something close to it. Instead he is charged with a process crime.
It’s time for this pathetic “investigation” to be shut down. What today brings is simply an extension of this witch hunt...nothing more...nothing less.

If true, I don’t see an issue here. After the election we knew he spoke to other governments. We knew he was told to. We don’t see a crime unless they stated under oath that they did not afterwards. But that is the crime., not collusion.

Nothing illegal here. It will turn out to be a nothing-burger and a big letdown for the liberal media and swamp things.

Flynn will start spinning fairy tales now to get out of jail and immunity from his other shady deals. Anything Mueller wants. Guaranteed.

Teddy Kennedy meddled with the Russians in the 1984 election. Nothing said about that.

Mary Jo Kopechne "meddled" in the 1972 elections. Of course, she was not available for comment, so nothing was said about that, either.

I agree. What in the world does this Flynn plea agreement have to do with the campaign? If Flynn lied about some conversation with the Russians in July of 2016, I would think there might be something to worry about.

One could easily say Flynn lied to the FBI and will now lie for FBI. The guy’s credibility is completely shot.

exactly! how could an event that allegedly happened in December 2016 effect an election in november 2016???

That actually works the other way in this whole legal mess.

This plea deal by Flynn is being presented in the media as if the prosecutors have a whole lot of leverage against him to make him cooperate with them to get higher-ups in the Trump team.

Actually, the exact opposite is true. The whole process of surveillance and unmasking is so fouled up from a legal standpoint that the evidence they collected against Flynn would probably never stand up in a court of law. I see this plea deal as an admission by Mueller's team that they can't possibly prosecute him for anything more serious anyway ... and the prosecution may have had to make huge concessions to Flynn in order to get him to agree not to take legal action in response to the abuses related to the FISA warrant that was used to gather the information against him.

The president can grant him a clearance. He is the ultimate say on that. Besides, the General already had a clearance.
Never speak to the FBI...period.

The left is all a twitter that Flynn is going to testify that Trump sked him to reach out to Russians before the election. For them that proves collusion to fix the election. LOL

If that’s the case, there’s nothing illegal and Trump himself at one point said he expected some of his campaign people to reach out to foreign countries. There is no crime if in fact Flynn admits to calling to introduce himself to Russian diplomats

Our sick, progressive, crony-capitalist, neocon ruling elites will risk anything, even a massive manufactured political crisis and war with Russia to keep their power.
