Ravens, NFL scramble as fans stay home
The Baltimore Sun ^ | December 2,2017 | Jeff Barker

Posted on 12/03/2017 11:47:34 AM PST by Hojczyk

It seems paradoxical: The Ravens, who have sold out every home game since they arrived in Baltimore in 1996, are advertising tickets for Sunday’s contest at M&T Bank Stadium.

But this is where the Ravens find themselves in 2017: Contemplating the prospect of empty seats, and appealing to fans to “Win Together. Purchase your tickets today!” even as the team is contending for what would be its first playoff berth since 2014.

Thousands of fans are trying to resell their tickets to the sold-out game Sunday against the Detroit Lions at 71,000-seat M&T Bank Stadium via Ticketmaster, the team’s official resale outlet, or StubHub. Seats were available this week in almost every section; an $80 ticket for an upper end zone seat could be had for as little as $29.

Every week, some ticket holders must miss the game. But the NFL is laboring across the board this season to maintain its fan base and minimize no-shows. It’s not just the Ravens. Television ratings are down league-wide and empty seats can be seen at many games.

The league faces troubles on multiple fronts this year from politics to health and the game itself. There’s fan anger, stoked by President Donald Trump, over the decision of some players to kneel during the national anthem to protest racial inequity and police brutality; injuries to star players such as Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers; fresh concerns about the long-term effects of hits and concussions on players’ brains; and inconsistent play.

New and hot: The NFL committing corporate suicide by siding with their whiny players that think they’re getting a bum rap in life.

Newer and hotter: NFL players dissing their fans.

Once the betrayal has occurred, the relationship will never be the same.

Exactly right - a significant number of the players have communicated their hatred for me, my country, my flag, and my president. It's over - there is no "relationship," and there never will be.

The problem with the Rangers’ stadium is that it is too hot. Not having a roof for a baseball stadium in Texas during the summer was a colossal goof.

No idea what the cause is. Let me take a knee, and maybe something will come to me.

“And to really show how dumb they are....the nfl has caved to the demands of the inmates and is transferring ~$100,000,000 to SJW related activities.”

And on top of that, they took that money from their funding of breast cancer research, which then angered the America haters even more.

Not that it bothers me, though, perhaps the players will stop dancing around in pink without the funding...but I’ll likely never know, since I don’t plan to ever watch the game again...unless the NFL does a 180 - and they still seem to be going the wrong way, on just about everything.

It will be nice to see if Super Bore ratings fall.

The nfl has handled this kneeling thing about as poorly as I've seen any business handle a bad PR incident.

One of the dumbest business decisions ever was dumping the most popular beverage recipe in the world for "New Coke" in 1985. At least the Coca-cola company backed down VERY quickly - three months. The NFL is in their second year of doubling down on stupid.

Oh yes...New Coke! That was a trainwreck. At leas they had to good sense to put the original formula back on the shelf.

New Coke was a ruse, to get people to accept replacing cane sugar with HFCS. They made New Coke so bad, that people were begging for the “Classic Coke”, which at least tasted close enough to the original, but it wasn’t.

I don’t think the NFL can put the original formula back on the shelf. The Coca-cola blunder was mere stupidity, far milder overt rudeness.

Players and League officials have spent almost two seasons telling us that they despise us, our flag, our anthem, our military, our country, and our ancestors. Playing nice next year will not erase that, and many fans are gone forever no matter what the League does.

Man, I hope the NFL crumbles into dust.

Go the way of the Incas, you anti-American hacks.

Haven’t watched a game all season. Neither did my 11 yr. old, which I’m very impressed by. Some things are bigger than simple life pleasures.

NFL - Not For Long

Give credit to Hank Stramm KC Chiefs for saying that to a ref standing on the sidelines about his last call and continued employment.

“Redistribution, gosh I wonder where they learned that?”

Probably one of the guys that took one of their classes for them told them about it. After they looked it up together.

“Wait for the results next year, after fans cancel their seasons tickets for 2018. Blood in the streets.”

indeed. one expects that many, perhaps most, of the season ticket holders for those empty seats will not be renewing ...
