Cynically, the push is for it to happen before Moore is either elected, or seated. If it happens before Moore is elected, Dems get a replacement Dem Senator for Al, while claiming the high ground against Moore, and hopefully influencing the election.

If it happens after Moore is elected, it lends backing to McConnell’s stated intent to initiate an ethics investigation of Moore, making it bipartisan. While hypocritical, this doesn’t concern me as much, because if Moore were forced to step down, his replacement would be an appointed Republican, who would likely also prevail in the next election in Alabama.

This “step down” hysteria can’t be because the Dems are concerned about doing the right thing. Clinton didn’t bother them in the least.

Believe me, if Minnesota had a Republican governor they wouldn’t be doing this

WHich is why there are no calls for Bob Menendez to resign, even though part of his bribery charges involved him being offered very young girls for sex. NJ has a Republican governor right now.

That, and he ain't White

"Two things going on here, the numbers keep mounting and the optics are getting worse. The main reason though is for a renewed push against Moore just before the election to try to cut his lead so that dirty tricks might be enough to swing it in their favor."

They don't get the South, Alabama, Deplorables, Trumpsters, and sticking it to the N.E. Media and Political establishment. This is a broken glass election and let them spin their wheels all they want, for not....

I’m glad to see it, BUT the true purpose of getting rid of one of their own, which is highly unusual is they are setting up, baiting the Republicans if Roy Moore is allowed to take his seat. The Democrats are putting themselves in a “holier than thou” position to attack IF Roy Moore is seated in the Senate.

I believe this to be true, and I believe this to be a joint effort by the Democrats, and their allies in the establishment that encompasses certain RINO Republicans, and the Democrat party. IOW a joint venture of the establishment of both parties.

Update: Franken will make an announcement Thursday.

The Dems are throwing Franken--with safe (D) replacement--under the bus, because they are gunning for Moore, and most likely preparing another carpet bomb for Trump.

Franken could just say, in his all too imitable Frankenian style, “Screw you all!! I’m staying right here!!” and the hysteria would go away when it produced not the desired result and he would probably win re-election next time around.

“He has to step down to help with the overall goal of taking out Moore then Trump”

Bingo - this is the strategy. While Franken remains they can’t go after the pubbies...

Franken is part of the Clinton establishment wing not the Obama establishment wing of the Democratic Party. Someone who was high up as the Clinton’s running mate. Fraken was also becoming close friends with Bernie... The DNC owned by the Obama wing wants him out.
