If I were to tuck a pistol under my pillow, I would never be able to locate it, the way I toss and turn all night.

I read about some dude who kept a pistol next to the phone on a bedside table. Very late at night, the phone roused him from a deep sleep whereupon he picked up his gun and shot himself in the head. The lesson to be learned is to never answer the phone at night.

Any intruder who is inside in your home is close enough to be a direct threat, regardless of the distance. They’re fair game.

Doesn’t sound like a junky/herion addict, to me.
I got this secondhand from an old friend but I am sure it is correct.
Another old friend was asleep in his house with all the lights out. He awoke and could just barely make out shadowy forms in the room. He lives alone and was recovering from cancer.
He grabbed a .357 magnum and fired six shots basically wildly. It was 3 Black men. It turned out he hit one and he was caught later at a hospital. The other two were identified by that one so they were all caught.
The old friend who recounted the story said he and his Brother both are now shopping for a pistol to keep in their bedrooms. Their wives are OK with it.
Keeping a pistol under you pillow is generally a bad idea but it sure worked out in this case.
