Wow, Starlin Castro and prospects for Stanton - a steal! I'm ready for pitchers and catchers ...

Seems like a done deal. Marlins’ player development head Gary Denbo had the same job with the Yankees and knows their prospects as well as can be known. Might be gold for both teams.

Perhaps the Yanks did not learn with the Rodriquez episode.

The Yankees still need an ACE. Cy Young type starting pitching. Stanton is great, but power hitting is not what they lacked this past year.

Derek Jeter trading Stanton to the Yankees for Starling Castro plus??? That belongs in the same class as Mueller’s hiring of Clinton’s campaign staff to investigate non existent Russiagate. I am certain MLB will thoroughly investigate any impropriety.

Yankees seem to have and endless supply of money. Doubt they regret ARod, even with the negatives.

Wealthiest teams (and some less so) mostly know when they’re overpaying for a single player. They count on the boost to team marketing.

Yankees have more top prospects than they can protect from Rule 5. So, using them as trade bait makes a lot of sense. They also have a problem with too many solid players in the infield; so, Castro can be replaced. This is not a knock on Casto. He’s been very productive as a Yankee. The problem with Stanton is he blows the salary cap for the team. But, this is a case where paying the luxury tax is worth it. The only problem is that this trade makes the Yankees very right-handed in a left-handers’ ballpark.

Conspiracy Theory: Yankees sent Alex to Miami to steal Stanton. Recreating the 1927 Yankees Murderers Row.

Don’t they have a pretty good right fielder?

Very good defensively and not bad at the plate - I thought he wasn't a good clutch hitter and somewhat injury prone.

I love Starlin and Didi and Aaron. Love the baby bombers. Let’s hope they don’t become horse’s ass billionaires.

Haven’t heard the term `hot stove’ connected with baseball since it was used to describe a league for boys too old for Little League.

What’s it mean here? Trading players before contracts runs out?

hot stove in all leagues refers to player movement speculation and information when movement occurs.

Agreed, and Tanaka should be that ace.

My guess is that the Yankees traded an entire outfield for Giancarlo. They don’t need all those upcoming outfielders except for judge

‘Hot stove league’ refers to MLB off-season. ‘Hot stove’ refers to winter. AFAIK, every MLB city has a radio show or newspaper column called ‘hot stove’ in the off-season.

Even the official MLB web site uses the term.

Starlin Castro is a potential super star and Jeter knows it.

The Steinbrenner boys are idiots who just hired, no coaching experience, Aaron Boone as manager. Hal and Hank are busy running the winners of the most championships in all of sports into the ground. While pushing their beloved soccer team. They do not deserve their father’s team.

They need to go.

My guess is that the Yankees traded an entire outfield for Giancarlo.
If they did include any current OFs, Jacoby Ellsbury would probably be the only one.

IIRC, he's twice been named an all-star, which is great, but I don't see "super-star" in his future.
