All I'm saying is when taxpayers see their Federal taxes suddenly shooting up due the Republican tax plan, I believe it's a bit insane to think they're going to blame the liberals for it.

It's just difficult for me to understand why anyone would think giving more of their money to the Feds sounds like a good idea - as if the Fed gove won't fritter it away on God knows what silliness.

And good luck "undoing" any extra tax once it's been put in place.

Ugh. I think I’d rather take my chances with the Mob than have to tangle with the California Franchise Tax Board.

We fled in 2015 for a no state income tax state—Tennessee. It is glorious. We are awash in jobs.

You have my empathy.

elections like erections have consequences.

seems like we are witnessing plenty of both in our halls of government and the alphabet agencies.

>> Low and No Income Tax states citizens essentially subsidize the high tax states citizenry.

You know that’s not true.

Compared to low taxed states, the high taxed states contribute about 2x per household to the fed despite SALT.

Making people pay more taxes isn’t a tax increase, right. You’d make a good Democrat propagandist

Years ago when I was a child I had a schoolbook of stories that we had to read for English. One story in particular was about a man who felt his house was too crowded. He went to seek the counsel of a wise man, and the wise man told him to move the chickens into the house.

He did as he was bade, but then he went back to the wise man and told him things were worse. The wise man counseled him to move his pigs into the house.

The man did this too, and went to complain to the wise man further. The wise man instructed him to bring his cows into the house.

Finally, after the man could take no more, he went back to the wise man to tell him how terrible everything was. The wise man told him to get all the animals out of his house and be content.

When next he saw the wise man, he thanked him for the sage advice, because now he was content to live in his home, and he complained no more about how crowded it was.

Sometimes you have to make things worse before you can make them better. Making taxes worse is the best way to get rid of them. Making them tolerable is the best way to keep them.

I don't want the feds to have more money, I want to starve the beast. One way to do that is to make more tax haters. One way to make more tax haters is to cost them money because their local spend thriftyness would no longer be tax deductible.

I'm not sold on this idea, but it does seem to me to have at least some strategic thinking behind it.

The avg TX household contributes $24k to the fed. Neighboring states between $11k to $23k.

Would make sense to increase property tax deduction cap.

Amazing how this tax plan has the states fighting each other instead of the citizens collectively pushing back against the insane federal budget.

Well, I’m a conservative in liberal Washington state. I own a small service business which relies on long-time clients.

I will not get a break on my business because it is a service business.

I have a big house with high property taxes, probably about $14,000 a year next year. I also have a large home equity loan. Under the new tax bill I estimate my taxes will increase by about $5,000 a year with those deductions being lowered and eliminated.

I am just barely into what might be considered upper middle class. All people in my situation will be hurt but one cannot just walk away from one’s livelihood to move to a lower tax state.

And trying to put pressure on reps here in Washington to lower property taxes is a joke. The state is totally controlled by Marxists.

There is a guy Ferguson who is the AG now and wants to run for governor. He wants a state income tax as well.

I want to support our new GOP federal government but budgeting an extra $400 dollars or so a month for taxes is very painful.

There actually are a lot of conservatives in Washington state but we are controlled by the Marxists who dominate the dense Puget Sound area.

“I’m not sold on this idea, but it does seem to me to have at least some strategic thinking behind it.”

What it reminds me of is when a person imagines a future conversation with another person:
“I’ll say this, then he’ll say that, then I’ll say this and then he’ll say that” (ad infinitum)
File under “What could possibly go wrong??”/Unintended Consequences.

But I do find a bit of sad, unintended humor in the underlying logic of “I’m going to really stick it to the liberals by giving more of my money to the government.”

Besides, political winds change as does Congressial makeup. Dems could undo it and call it “relief from the tax burden imposed on Americans by Republicans/Trump”. Or they could keep the money and enjoy funding the leftist agenda at both the local -AND- federal level.

The only people who would see that are Republicans still living in hopelessly communist states, for some reason. Which of them do you live in?

I understand that it’s sometimes hard to pick up and leave logistically, but if it’s more just an emotional/pride thing, you should get over it and move - vote with you wallet and your feet.

I used to be a proud NYer, but I saw my state become a dumping ground for the nation’s freaks and kooks and left. I’m now proud to have zero association with that craphole and happy that I only have to set foot in there to visit family on special occasions.

You have my sympathies friend. I personally believe that only tax payers should be allowed to vote, and thereby would we get this thing under control.

I don't want to pay higher taxes either, though I do like the idea of simplifying the tax code.

I do not know what to think of this thing, and I am just trying to find a bright spot to something that seems like it is going to happen whether I like it or not.

Again, I feel your worry and concern and I am sorry you will likely get hurt by this stuff.

More of their money to the government. It's probably going to hit me a little, but I expect it's going to hit them a lot.

I'd be willing to suffer a little if it makes them suffer a whole lot more.

I understand. The logic, such as it is, is to punish Americans and make them pull up their roots and move. If you can make that plan work more power to ya, I say!

The problem is this will just increase the number of Dems who will flee these high tax blue states and turn purple states blue. The entire eastern seaboard from NC to FL is at risk now, IMO.

“It’s probably going to hit me a little, but I expect it’s going to hit them a lot.”

It’ll impact mostly middle-incomers who itemize. The working poor & low incomers should be covered by the standard personal deductions.

“I’d be willing to suffer a little if it makes them suffer a whole lot more.”

Trying to make Americans miserable probably won’t have the expected outcome. The masochist population isn’t a high percentage.

The ones who really love the idea is the Uniparty in DC, so at least everyone won’t be suffering as they’re gifted with even more mad money to spend.

Gee really? You just got that? Wow very smart! What do you think it was about? THIS is why the Democrats were crying and throwing themselves on the floor kicking away. They are finished in about a year after this kicks in.

Don't we control both houses of Congress? Why is this being sold as the best we can do?

“Don’t we control both houses of Congress? Why is this being sold as the best we can do?”

“Control” is probably too strong of a word. In the House, the numbers are definitely on the GOP side. In the Senate, there is a majority, but not an overwhelming one - hence the urgency to seat Moore. But in both chambers you have “political bisexuals” who can go either way, depending on the circumstances.

One such circumstance could be the Republican congress-critters from the blue/purple states that would be hit harder by elimination of the SALT deduction. If they vote for it, they’re much more likely to be replaced by a Dem at the next election than those in a deep red district-state. They would be the most easiest of pickins for Dems, with a populace steamed about a tax on taxes imposed by a Republican congress & President.
