This is the third passenger train to derail on a curve due to excessive speed. Amtrak in North Philly (5/12/15) and NY Metro-North at Spuyten Duyvil (12/1/13) are the others. Being a RR fan and historian, I don’t recall seeing these types of crashes happening in this frequency in the past.

This particular project opted not to install a safety control system. I heard someone on the radio speaking about it during an interview.
Apparently it seems to be optional? But there is a safety mechanism system available that may have prevented this.
No geofences that can automatically limit speeds where needed?
