“If the engineer was speeding, 3 guesses why.
I’ll take “affirmative action hire” for $1000, please.
Govt. kinda slow to adopt “positive speed control”?
A project that cost nine figures only saves 10 to 15 minutes of travel time, and that only when things are running perfectly. If the engineer was told to speed and acquiesced, my bet is that’s why: to avoid giving critics more cause.
Ill take affirmative action hire for $1000, please.

Small planes have autopilot.
Cars are self driving.
There’s no good reason why such technology isn’t on trains for safety purposes. One would think that it would be an easier implementation.

I might get yelled at here but, you’re probably almost right - I heard the Scanner chatter yesterday on the news and it was a woman who was calling in - yup - probably a woman driver - did they put her there on the virgin passenger run because of PC? What on earth made her drive 50mph over designated limit? Did anxiety kick in?
Just sayin’
That's a good possibility, but there are others. Drugs, a really, really important text message, or Allah at the controls all come to mind.
How about wanting to save the ten minutes, a bit like the Titanic going for a speed record?
