The Geniuses at Amtrak. Set up a “high speed” passenger train route, and DO it on low speed tracks still having speed-limiting curves. Spent a fortune laying brand new rails and ties, on a route that originally carried wood-burning puffer bellies. And didn’t bother EMPHASISING to the operators, that portions of the route were still low speed.

Are trains’ speeds managed by an engineer in the train or are they done via computer, like auto pilot?

How this is caused by a human being is the problem. The technology available is easily capable of stopping this from happening. I know why it’s still under human control but it still should have technological backups.

Yup, we the taxpayer. As long as we are on the hook, paying for Amtrak management that gives not one damn about how many people are killed, how many families and lives are destroyed, this will continue. Because in the end it will be taxpayers footing the bill in dollars and lives.

But hey what's a few dead taxpayers, there's plenty more where the came from.

I’ll be honest here and say I think there is a coverup going on. WSP would be negligent if they do not IMMEDIATELY arrest the engineer and conductor.
Not saying necessarily that they are guilty of anything, but you need them in protective custody at least.

Anybody else think that maybe Amtrak bigwigs said to them “Just let er rip... try to set the record for travel time...”...

Won’t be the first time. At all.
