What Might Civil War Be Like?
American Thinker ^ | December 20, 2017 | E.M. Cadwaladr

The thought of Civil War has been in the minds of many people lately, on both sides of the political and cultural divide. This is not a thing to be wished for, though no one should kid themselves into believing it’s impossible either. Let us take a sober look at what such a conflict might entail.

To begin with, it would not look like the first American Civil War, which was essentially a war between two regions of the country with different economic interests. The divide created two separate countries, both initially contiguous, intact, and relatively homogeneous. The lines of demarcation now are only somewhat regional, and tend to correspond to differences between urban and rural populations, as well as differences of race and class.

A Civil War will begin when Patriotic Americans refusing to obey Fascist Unconstitutional Laws, forcing the Jack Booted Authorities to go door to door to enforce them.

When that happens, one Brave Citizen will fight back and he / she will light the fuse of a modern Shot heard round the World.

When people realize that their Lives will never be the same if they simply comply to Fascism, they will fight for freedom.

Or not...

I live on the border between a large urban area and the rural country. The urban hoards shall not pass.

Well, if they’re smart they’ll use Rosie O’Donnel and Michael Moore as human shields and we will NEVER be able to reach them...

I think we have already taken the off ramp to that road, but unlike some, I am not anticipating it, I am dreading it.

When or if it comes, it is going to be bloody, violent, and full of death, privation, deprivation and sorrow, and nearly all (not all, since some revel in this) will wish there were some way we could have avoided it.

It may not be avoidable, but I can guarantee there will be only a very few who are going to ‘like’ it after a period of time.

“Being as how lefty journalists, judges, and democrat politicians would find themselves to be initial targets, I would expect a quick resolution. Probably be over before anitfa could trash a Starcucks.”

Just keep lists and locations up to date.

> It would likely resemble the Yugoslavian breakup and regional wars fought there. Mixed populations forced to move to safer areas. <

Good observation. And the left is doing everything they can to turn the United States into another Yugoslavia. Down with patriotism. Down with the flag. Up with tribalism. Up with grievance politics.

Pandora's box:

Maybe not so much. The disruptive elements like antifa and BLM that are most reactionary are also among the least productive elements of our society. They are mostly vagrants or inner city rats.

The worst they have tried to do do is sabotage the transportation infrastructure. Citizens dependent on this will protect it even if in a vigilante mode.

Imagine a few 18 wheelers encountering a SHTF "human wall" on I-40 near Amarillo or I-90 in South Dakota. My money is on the truckers.

This premise is wrong. The break up will be state by state and the war will be regional. The city vs state thing is bogus. Cities have to go with the state. If a state secedes from the union then all the cities in that state secedes.

Read Civil War Two: The Coming Breakup of America by Thomas W Chittum. Chittum is a Viet Nam vet who later became a mercenary in Croatia, and witnessed the warfare in the Balkans.

The US militarily is minuscule and irrelevant against a general insurrection. 500,000 active duty is a drop in the bucket compared to millions upon millions that can muster in an emergency.

A second American Civil War will be a nightmare. But as a much wiser man than I said once, "War is not the worst of things".

It might bear some geographic similarities to the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s, but the affects on the populace will be much more akin to the pogroms of the French Revolution.

Many decades of social division and its resultant tribal hatreds all but guarantee that. Unfortunately.

Looking at the larger picture, however, I see something else occurring -- if the U.S. falls into disarray and social upheaval, I see countries like China and/or Russia making their move. We're the only thing in their way.

So if the U.S. burns, the world will burn. Perhaps it deserves to.

I agree with the tone of your post in particular.

Leftists seem intent on finding the boundaries of this envelope, and pushing it as far as they can, which is far outside the boundaries of rational behavior.

I can easily see a 2nd Amendment issue getting out of hand and sparking a fire.

The elephant in the living room that no one wants to talk about is the likeliest method that the fighters in rural areas are going to use to quickly identify the enemy at a distance.

______________

is he talking about color?

IF so, my poor son!

I live an hour outside of a large urban area. I'll be counting on you.

It’s a very short, fun short story. It’s like a very short biography of many who write about civil war without having experienced much training for infantry combat.

never think that a civil war would be anything but a horror show and protracted conflict. Think Rwanda.

Better just to kill the heads of the opposition quickly like in V for Vendetta, than have the country in a long battle.

My father said that the US has no idea of what the suffering of war is about. He was a WW II vet.

It’s already started.

I agree, but more on a cold war level, with small violent skirmishes breaking out. Ferguson, MO was one. Various antifa violent episodes, too. These will likely get more numerous and merge into larger, mass acts of domestic violence which must be answered by the citizenry, given the local law enforcement continues to back off.
