What Might Civil War Be Like?
American Thinker ^ | December 20, 2017 | E.M. Cadwaladr

The thought of Civil War has been in the minds of many people lately, on both sides of the political and cultural divide. This is not a thing to be wished for, though no one should kid themselves into believing it’s impossible either. Let us take a sober look at what such a conflict might entail.

To begin with, it would not look like the first American Civil War, which was essentially a war between two regions of the country with different economic interests. The divide created two separate countries, both initially contiguous, intact, and relatively homogeneous. The lines of demarcation now are only somewhat regional, and tend to correspond to differences between urban and rural populations, as well as differences of race and class.

He didn’t continue beyond that, but someone further down in the comments ‘went there’. To be perfectly blunt about the matter, I think that is exactly what that situation would devolve to.

There won't be another civil war. There are no patriots willing to fight it. They have too much debt, and are too worried about making sure they have the biggest mortgage, along with the car payments, and credit card bills, and the ATV/UTV's, boats, dirt bikes, etc., not to mention making sure the wife has climate control and the kids got food, clothes and a roof over their heads.

The moment one stands, that all goes away. See my tagline.

If urban vs. rural it will go like a match.
The 13% and their allies will lose and what’s left of the government will then attempt to prosecute the winners.
Who owns the military decides the outcome.

I’m certainly not itching for Civil War. I know what it will mean. I have been in war, and it’s truly a terrible thing, even when fought for the right reasons.

I don’t think we should shrink from our obligation to protect freedom and liberty either.

I sometimes (not so tongue-in-cheeky) tell myself that if every freedom loving American just took out one uppity leftist in their sphere, we’d stave off socialism for another 200 years.

What is missing in most of the comments here is organization. Nobody wins a conflict without a good basic organization of fighters and supplies. A resistance needs a competent, knowledgeable and steady organization behind it. So far no conservative/right group has come into existence that would be capable of making an orderly and sensible central command of resistance. Think about it.

Bloody, constant and merciless.

We’d make Yugoslavia and Vietnam look like a 3rd grade fist fight. With the number of weapons and asymmetrical aspect of guerrilla warfare, there’d be 20-30 years of blood letting. It would take about one generation to get sick of death....possibly. I have to admit that if my family wasn’t involved I’d like to see the PC social justice warriors sack up and throw down. Lot of guys with armed forces training on both sides but I’m thinking that most of them would be on one side.

Just my opinion.

Have to bore down deeper for the ‘liberal urban areas’. Racism/gangs will further dissect these areas with brutal battles over local resources, control, power and paybacks. The ‘liberal’ will be paying dearly for their inclusiveness and sanctuary city policies as they are raped and pillaged by those very types they’ve protected in the past. This won’t be a much of a problem in the more conservative, rural area. By the time the ‘urban armies’ dig themselves out of their turf wars and try to move urban, they will be significantly diminished, though perhaps battle hardened.

Who said anything about secession? Last time, secession was the trigger for the war, because the issues being debated were tied to geography, but it is not necessary for a civil war to erupt. This time, the issues have nothing to do with a dispute over state laws or policies; it’s strictly ideological, and to the extent there is any geographical divide, it is as the article states: urban vs rural. It will be the “Clinton Archipelago” against “Trumpland”.

It’s already started.

It never stopped. I keep pointing out the distinctions between the Hamiltonians and the Jeffersonians.

If a state secedes from the union then all the cities in that state secedes.

According to whose rules?! The problem with trying to out-guess a nightmare is that the nightmare is undefined. You can't predict chaos.

For instance, in my state (Washington) Seattle is a lefty loony-bin literally surrounded on all sides by the right. In the event of a civil war smaller internecine warfare would develop between the two factions, drawn down ideological lines (as well as geographical ones).

Already surrounded, Seattle would be likely be quarantined. But that's all conjecture because we don't (can't) know how the dominoes will fall.
