I’m refuting your reasoning that Hatch is saying this because he wants to win re-election.

I apologize for the name calling, but Hatch is obviously not saying this only to win re-election, because:
1) he is old and is really really wanting to retire, and has to be begged not to.
2) his seat is safe, no matter what he says. It’s safer than Chuck Schumer’s seat in New York.
So, if someone is conservative, I would think that it means they have some critical thinking skills.
It is pretty irresponsible to say that Hatch is saying this to only to win re-election, without any actual evidence, in light of the above. If you have actual evidence, not some hunch based on Hatch’s moderate politics, let’s see it.
I apologize as well for name calling. However, Hatch has campaigned as as a conservative for years and voted like Alexander and McCain once elected. McCain is the master of this backstabbing technique.
Surely Utah has a better and more reliable conservative choice than Hatch or Romney.
