Doug Jones was certified by Alabama's state canvassing board today as the winner of the Dec. 12 special election for the U.S. Senate, despite a last ditch legal challenge by opponent Roy Moore.

Jones issued a statement immediately after the certification.

"I am looking forward to going to work for the people of Alabama in the new year," Jones stated. "As I said on election night, our victory marks a new chapter for our state and the nation. I will be an independent voice and work to find common ground with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get Washington back on track and fight to make our country a better place for all."

The certification by the canvassing board made up of the governor, secretary of state, and attorney general, came after a judge denied Roy Moore's request to halt certification of Doug Jones' win in the Alabama U.S. Senate race.

The state canvassing board met at 1 p.m. to certify the results of the Dec. 12 special election for U..S. Senate.

Doug Jones' final margin of victory was 21,924 votes, the Secretary of State's office said before the certification began. Official vote tally: Jones, 673,896, or 50 percent. Moore, 651,972, 48.3 percent and write-ins, 22,852, or 1.7 percent.

I don’t know why he hid. Why do GOP guys hide? Thank God Trump isn’t in that stupid mold.

In the meantime, however, I guess maybe a move for a restraining order in lieu of an appeal but I don’t even know if there is such a thing.

If Moore has substantial reason to believe the vote was fraudulent, IMO he should try everything - go as far as he can. He should.

>>>If Moore has substantial reason to believe the vote was fraudulent, IMO he should try everything - go as far as he can.

So given that he hasn’t called for a recount, can we assume that he doesn’t have substantial reason to believe the vote was fraudulent?

Could be. So he didn’t “call for a recount” but sued instead? That doesn’t make any sense to me.

He has to pay for a recount out if his own or the campaign’s pocket. To date, he has not been willing to put his own money at risk.

Well, that’s interesting. He may feel like why should he pay for what he may consider to be probable cause of fraud in the vote. Takes me back to why he doesn’t appeal, but maybe that would also cost him too much I suppose unless he can use campaign money and still has some.

The Supreme Court of the United States had better hear AND RULE on it, OR ELSE ... ALL HELL IS GOING TO BREAK LOOSE !

The Supreme Court has no jurisdiction. Under the Constitution (Article I, section 5), the ultimate judge of any Senate election contest is the U.S. Senate itself. ("Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members"). If the Senate seats Jones, that's the end of it.

He is just a placeholder until Jeff Sessions original term is filled out.

He’ll be gone in 2020............

Time enough to do damage

Alabamans voted stupidly or failed to vote. That's a fact.

When there's been a CRIME committed, I believe the SCOTUS has jurisdiction. Things have changed!

Bennie Smith, a Memphis computer programmer, discovered HOW this is done through aDiebold Election Systems changed its name in 2006 to Premier Election Solutions.
