We will win the seat back in 2020.

This was an aberration, like the Republican being elected to the Senate in Mass. in the special election to fill Ted Kennedy's seat in 2009.

Yes, I don't get the jubilation/lament over this. Doug Jones's stay in the U.S. Senate will be all of a half Senate term, and he'll almost certainly be unceremoniously fired by the voters in Alabama come 2020, should he seek reelection.

Like Scott Brown winning that special election in Massachusetts during Obama's first year in office, it's a pure anomaly. Brown got defeated by Elizabeth Warren too, having never won a full Senate term of his own.
