Dems rail against Trump after global warming tweet
The Hill ^ | Dec 28, 2017 | John Bowden

Posted on 12/28/2017 10:53:29 PM PST by Oshkalaboomboom

Democrats in both houses of Congress piled on President Trump Thursday night after he suggested that the northeastern U.S. could use some "global warming" to help recover from cold temperatures.

In his tweet earlier Thursday evening, Trump also incorrectly asserted that the U.S. would be the only country to contribute money to a climate fund under the Paris agreement, which Trump pledged to exit in June.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on
record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global
Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to
pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!

The tweet sparked rebuked from several Democratic lawmakers, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D), who tweeted that the U.S. has a "moral obligation" to combat climate change.

Elizabeth Warren
@elizabethforma
I’m going to say something really crazy: I believe in science.
Climate change is real and we have a moral obligation to protect
this Earth for our children and grandchildren.

Warren was joined by fellow Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.). Harris tweeted that local governments must confront climate issues while the administration won't, while Whitehouse implored the president to read a report on climate change produced by his own administration.

Kamala Harris
@KamalaHarris
Climate change is real and it poses a grave threat to our nation
and our planet. It’s abundantly clear this Adminstration won’t
tackle climate change head on, so state and local governments
must.

Sheldon Whitehouse
@SenWhitehouse
This is just embarrassing. It’s clear facts don’t matter to you, but
here’s the new climate report from your administration that
affirms climate change is caused by human activity, and has
serious health, economic, and environmental consequences.
Read it.

The tweet also drew jabs from several California Democrats, including Ted Lieu and Kathleen Rice. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) also weighed in. Rice was the sharpest with her criticism, accusing the president of tweeting "like a child."

Kathleen Rice
@RepKathleenRice
Instead of tweeting like a child who hates science class, if you're
so worried about the cold you could always send your 45M+
followers info about how to find shelter, prevent hypothermia &
frost bite, prevent pipes from freezing, protect their pets, etc.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal
@RepJayapal
In 2017, there were about three record high temperatures in the
U.S. for every record low temperature. Weather is not the same
as climate. The president should be able to understand that. It
isn't hard.

Ted Lieu
@tedlieu
Either @realDonaldTrump doesn't understand the science
behind climate change, or he is intentionally misleading the
American people. Also, Merry Christmas (even though today is
Dec 28) because the President says we can say that again
(even though we have always been saying it).

Virginia Rep. Don Beyer (D), meanwhile, pointed out that Trump erroneously referred to the amount the U.S. would pay under the Paris agreement as "trillions" of dollars, accusing Trump of not understanding the deal he has often criticized. Wisconsin's Mark Pocan coined a nickname for Trump over the affair, "Denying Donald."

Rep. Don Beyer
@RepDonBeyer
1: This isn’t how climate change works.
2: We weren’t paying trillions of dollars. You didn’t understand
the Paris Agreement in June and you still don’t.
3: Climate Change is real. It is a serious threat to our children.
You need people on your team who can explain this to you.

Mark Pocan
@MarkPocan
Denying Donald doesn’t understand science. His ignorance is
our loss.

The tweet also drew criticism from former DNC chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), who praised local efforts in Broward County, Florida to protect the state from the effects of climate change.

D Wasserman Schultz
@DWStweets
While Trump struggles to understand the difference between
temperature and climate, we must take action in our own
communities. We can’t afford to wait. Thank you Broward County

Europe seems to have a had a rough winter already, with much more cold and snow in the next few days.

The past two weeks in West Texas I would have been impressed if they could accurately predict temperatures within 5 degrees F the day before. They missed the high temp by over 10 degrees here the past few days. Always predicting too warm. Two days out they were 20 degrees off the mark yesterday. Pathetic. In the mean time people got caught too lightly dressed. And we’re not even talking actual heat indexes which would have been even more innacurate.

The Pacific rejected solar warming about a year or two ago with an El Nino. That temporary blow off into the atmosphere is lost in space now. The weak solar maximum is gone. The Atlantic was cooled by some hurricanes. You dont need computer models to figure that out. Just basic physical logic and proper emphasis on heat content. Many frozen hippie statues the next few winters because the fools cannot comprehend density metrics.

The number actually doesnt matter. A computer simulation isnt “settled science” no matter how many simulation models they run. These models cannot correctly predict Thursday’s temperature on a Monday (I have cross checked many times) and they want us to believe prediction 50 years out? A settled science is a law, like F = MA or K.E = 1/2mv**2. There is no law that gives us earth’s temperature on a given date.

You have to admire Trump.
All he has to do is say: “Hey Democrats, look at this shiny thing! It shines! Looky here!”
And they go for it.

That’s why many Democrats want Twitter to shut down Trump’s personal account. Mind you, if Twitter tries that, the public relations blowback would end up destroying the company.

Elizabeth Warren
@elizabethforma
I’m going to say something really crazy: I believe in science.
You’re right; that is crazy. Crazy for you to say. Crazy, or mendacious.

Because science is intelligent skepticism, and you don’t believe in skepticism. You are cynical about society, all right, but cynicism is such an extreme of skepticism that it does not admit doubt. Apart from that, you are a doctrinaire true believer with no skepticism at all.

You demand that we put total faith in government (run by you, how convenient), and in the opaque, nonreproducable “models” which are not to be checked or questioned. Science which is not based on experiments which can be repeated to give essentially the same result each time is not, and cannot be, “settled."

I’m in north central Florida and the high temperature for the entire WEEK next week will not be out of the 50’s. That is most unusual as it may get cold for a day or two as a front comes through, but then usually warms up to more seasonable temps with highs in upper 60’s, low 70’s.

It's 9 degrees where I'm at and the weatherman just said it's not going to get any better today. Average daily temp here for this time of year is supposed to be 32-34 degrees.

President Trump is right: I want global warming back!!

I think the real science deniers are the ones that say a woman can have a Y chromosome, a male have no Y chromosomes, and a baby in utero is not human... Builds a case against their fake climate science.

So anecdotal evidence of ManBearPig is settled Science when it suits the Dems, but lose their mind when our wonderful President playfully Tweets about the weather?

They have been on average off by 10 degrees in their high temp predictions here. So expect your highs to be lower than that.
