Melania Trump is making a key mistake that makes her less admired than Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama trumped Melania Trump in winning over the hearts of the American people.

Michelle Obama placed second in Gallup's poll of the most admired women in the US, while Melania Trump earned the No. 8 spot.

Trump has received backlash for wearing expensive outfits, which can make her seem out of touch with Americans.

Obama, meanwhile, used her fashion choices to represent social and political initiatives.

On Wednesday, Obama earned the No. 2 spot on Gallup's poll of Americans on the woman living anywhere in the world they admire most.

The No. 1 spot went to Hillary Clinton.

Obama became famous for her appreciation of Target and J.Crew fashion during her time as first lady. She used fashion to appear as an accessible yet aspirational "mom-in-chief."

Obama's fashion sense was often used to symbolize her social initiatives. One of Obama's best-known acts as a first lady was establishing the White House garden in 2009. It went hand-in-hand with her efforts to reduce rates of childhood obesity, with initiatives such as the school nutritional regulations.

Obama used the garden as a place to showcase her down-to-earth fashion. Vogue said in its review of Obama's 2012 book, "American Grown," that "throughout the book, the first lady, always beautifully coiffed, wears a different J. Crew sweater to match the season (marigold yellow for summer, argyle for fall)."

Trump, meanwhile, has come under fire for some of her more expensive outfits. The first lady has scaled back somewhat after her clothing choices sparked criticism but her wardrobe is still notably more expensive and has more designer labels than Obama's.

Still, Americans demand substance — not just style. Obama managed to use her fashion choices as a way to make a political statement.

Black Privilege and fear of being called racist are the only thing keeping people from telling the truth about that ugly, ugly woman, Michelle Obama.

The writer makes it sound like the position of First Lady is a popularity contest.

The entire premise of this article is bogus!

No one can be admired less than Michelle Obama, unless, of course, you include Hillary Clinton - IMHO!

While I cannot afford to buy my wife, well, probably anything the first lady wears... I am not jealous nor envious. I would prefer our first lady look the part, look stunningly good. Our previous first lady dressed like someone I’d run into at Walmart.

Since Hillary was voted #1 and Michelle #2 most admired women that proves it was an unbiased poll with a wide range of people being polled... Right?

Indeed.

Let's just all agree that some people like ghetto trash, and others prefer sophisto, and leave it at that.

No more need for stupid polls.

Take any hippo out of the water. Put a potato sack over it. Register it as a democrat, and have it marry a democrat that becomes president. Eventually, that hippo is named the most stylish and best dressed and most admired “person” in the world.

BTw, are Michelle and Sheila Jackson Lee sisters? Seems like the same kind of looks and charm and body styles.

Was Jackie Kennedy ever told to stop wearing beautiful outfits cause it made her "out of touch" with ordinary Americans?

I as a 63 year old American woman, love seeing our beautiful FLOTUS. She has style, and grace.

I had hoped that they wouldn't go after her and Barron; but, they have done so. I guess it is a rule only for Dem politicians' wives and children.

So make your clothing political.

Yeah, that is what the public wants.

Things aren’t already too political. </S>

This is BS. She would be just as beautiful and just as “disliked” (dissed) if she wore a sack cloth. I’ve always said I could “dress” her as well as any expensive clothier ... just go to Walmart and buy a sundress and put it on her. She would still turn heads. People will learn, it is more than “clothes” that make this woman.

Comparing the two women is a joke. Melania Trump was part of the world of fashion; Michelle learned as she went along to dress better with less 'boob-belts' and many gorgeous gowns. Melania Trump had graciously lent her name to the childhood favorite Dr. Seuss books that The White House selected a school from every state to receive ten Seuss books in recognition of “National Read a Book” Day — among those selected was the Cambridge public school where Liz Soeiro works as a librarian and made it her job to publicly refuse the gift of those books because of Melania's involvement.

Ms. Soeiro is shows pettiness.

I didn’t vote for Donald’s wife. I have never voted for a first lady. They should all shut up and look pretty. The more shut up the better. The prettier the better. The less wookie like the better. The less political activism the better. The less future political aspirations the better. The less political power wielded the better.

It was not the “poll” but 10 years of extreme propaganda pushing Michael as the “perfect woman”: all fashionable, all the time, with perfect taste doing perfect things.

Obama’s “socially conscious” outfits were often expensive designer-made clothes, and the media applauded her for it. Remember when she wore the $400 tennis shoes to the homeless center?

Regarding your pic: I wonder what social or political initiative the author would claim that outfit represents?
