Kuwaiti report: US gives Israel go-ahead to kill powerful Iranian general

US intelligence agencies have given Israel the green light to assassinate the senior Iranian responsible for coordinating military activity on behalf of the Islamic Republic in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Jarida.

For the past 20 years or so, Qassem Soleimani has commanded the Quds Force — the branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards responsible for military and clandestine operations outside of the Islamic Republic.

Soleimani is a key figure in efforts to prop up Syrian President Bashar Assad and to enable him to retake cities and towns from rebel groups during his country’s ongoing civil war. He is also responsible for providing military aid to the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas in Gaza — both of which are committed to the destruction of Israel — as well as to Shia and Kurdish groups in Iraq.

Three years ago, Israel came close to assassinating Soleimani near Damascus, al-Jarida quoted unnamed source as saying, but the Americans tipped off the Iranians against the background of intense disagreement between Washington and Jerusalem.

That was during the Obama administration, which, according to reports at the time, was so focused on securing the 2015 Iran nuclear accord that it chose to overlook and even obstruct efforts to clamp down on Iranian-backed terror organizations.

It’s not clear if the reported tip-off was related to efforts to secure the Iran deal.

Today, the Trump and Netanyahu administrations see eye to eye on Iran. Just four days ago, the two countries signed a joint memorandum of understanding laying the groundwork for full cooperation to deal with Iran’s nuclear drive, its missile programs and its other threatening activities, an Israeli TV report said recently.

If true, that Trump allowed this info dissemination, then it is purposeful to better our standing, not damage us like Obama did in telegraphing our every move.

I read where Stalin was presented with a plan to kill Hitler, who sometimes ate at a Berlin restaurant where they could have gotten to him. Stalin said, “But what if they replace him with somebody competent?”

Many times I have read the business case where a company was failing and the owner died. Somebody replaced him and rejuvenated the company into a moneymaking affair. When it comes to generals and political leaders, sometimes it is best to leave whoever is in charge, in charge. I don’t know if this man is competent or not, but a study I read about political assassinations investigated the actual results versus what the assassin wanted. In every case they studied the opposite of what the assassin wanted was achieved.

There is nothing linear about politics. The results of big moves, like assassinations, can be chaotic and unpredictable.

When and how is the secret. The what is well known.

President Trump is informing the world the game has changed (note this morning’s tweet on Pakistan).

Israel does not need our “go ahead” to defend herself.

The German general staff sending Lenin back to Russia comes to mind.

Possibly. If it's true. But if true...

A truth that's told with bad intent, Beats all the lies you can invent.

while Israel coordinates probably more than any other country with USA, they do not require permission from CIA to defend themselves including anything like this

the article reflects a false premise. the correct way for the author to have written it would have been that Jerusalem and WashingtonDC are working together to achieve this noble goal

Thomas Wictor, in a number of tweet threads, gives credible evidence he has been dead since 2015. Every one of the published pictures or videos of him can be traced back to being old stuff just run again. There was even a thread where they tried to pass a body double, but it was poorly done and one could see it was not him.

I think this is the signal to start opening a total can of whoop-ass on what remains of the Quds and Hezbollah at Golan. The Israelis were clearing mine field paths along the border last week.

Bogus report. Israel does not - repeat, not - need nor asks for permission from US or anybody else to take steps that are in their national interest. Moreover, it’s likely that Israel would not share vital strategic plans with allies for fear of compromise.
