Twitter explains why it won't ban Trump over controversial tweets
CBS News ^ | January 5, 2018 | Unattributed

Twitter Inc. said Friday it will not block world leaders from its social media platform because they play a critical role in global and public conversations. The statement comes after some Twitter users have called on the company to ban President Trump for tweets that they say encourage violence, even stoking fears of a nuclear war between the U.S. and North Korea.

"Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets, would hide important information people should be able to see and debate. It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions," the company said in a blog post Friday.

good decision by Twitter. What would Trump do without it? Serious question...what if Trump lost access to Twitter? What's the alternative?

What's the alternative?

Someone starting up a competing service without political censorship. Trump's 65M subscribers are likely a very mobile customer base and will follow wherever he flitters off to, to the ruin of Twitter.

Twitter has a lot of negative baggage. They don't want to give a competitor a quaranteed 65M subscriber base on startup.

Well, Trump can't post here. We already have enough n00Bs.

Seriously? He'd find another social medium which would instantly rocket to number 1 in the world. I don't Tweet but I'd subscribe to that one. And so would everybody else. And the PTB at Twitter know it.

F##k “Twitter”

Who is the actual PERSON responsible for making decisons on their censorship.

Failing to identify the target is getting old.

good decision by Twitter. What would Trump do without it?

An equally relevant question would be what would happen to Twitter without Trump?

Trump is the only reason Twitter remains relevant.

Which is why I suspect Twitter begrudgingly leaves @RealDonaldTrump alone.

If Twitter dumped Trump, there would be an alternate service overnight.

During the following six month Twitter would lose 25% of it’s base, or more.

He shouldn’t not be banned because he is a world leader but because what he tweets is the truth.

Twitter could not pay for that kind of publicity — having POTUS as one of their daily tweeters.

If they tried to ban him, their follow-ship would drop by millions. Sort of like what the NFL is experiencing but afraid to admit.

That is drives the Libs crazy is just a bonus for the rest of us.

.....”Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets, would hide important information people should be able to see and debate....

There are also other people who are not world leaders—and who may be subject to Twitter’s blocking policies—who present important information!!!!

Get with it, Twitter! PHOOEY!!!!

“our bank account said NOOOOO!!”

Totally! Can you imagine the loss of revenue if they banded PDJT, not just his account, but many, many others in protest?

The reason Twitter won't ban TRUMP is because they've seen what the NFL is going through

If they want their market cap to drop $5 to $10 Billion the next day the market opens, go ahead and ban TRUMP! LOL

Twitter would lose out to the free-for-all GAB

https://gab.ai/home

and Pres. Trump would be gutty enough to go there.

"...alternate service overnight..."

Twitter use for me is mostly awaiting updates from President Trump and vaguely watching a small handful of others.
Were the POTUS to be banned (who seriously wishes to be the individual to do that?) he easily has the juice to get a competitor launched.
People like my parents, who only follow me and President Trump, would similarly depart to a new service in an instant.

Translation: we couldn’t survive the hit to our bottom line. Trump is VERY good for Twitter’s business.

I use Twitter predominantly for business, weather, science, Orthodox Church communications, etc.

But I also check @RealDonaldTrump every morning, and even “like” some of his Tweets!!!!

Twitter would go out of business if they lost people like me! And I wish they (and Google) would stop blocking or downgrading people for political and/or cultural reasons!!!!
