You are correct in your historical references, and I agree this is the most serious national crisis since the Civil War.

It is striking that your three references highlighted two bloody civil wars and a revolutionary war. Are we facing another one?

If there is any hope, perhaps it will look like a USA version of the French revolution. It worked in two parts. The second portion got a little out of control but it thinned the population.
