California Rep. Darrell Issa will announce his retirement from Congress on Wednesday, according to sources who confirmed the news to the Washington Examiner.
The OC Daily first reported the California Republican would announce his retirement from his seat later on Wednesday after serving in Congress since 2001. Issa later confirmed the news in a statement.
"Throughout my service, I worked hard and never lost sight of the people our government is supposed to serve. Yet with the support of my family, I have decided that I will not seek re-election in California's 49th District," Issa said.

There again. The federal government is in the captain’s chair when it comes to Welfare.
Trump is going to prove that point between now and the end of his first term.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see 50-75% of those on Welfare today, gone by 2020.
Oh! I don’t deny federal responsibility...I also don’t excuse liberal states that do everything they can, including breaking the law to exasperate the issue.
Only one U.S. President ever signed an amnesty for illegal aliens into law. He was a former Governor of California. 2.8 million illegals got Green Cards and their children were born here as citizens.
The data I quoted and posted is ridiculous in what way? That CA doesn’t send 14 (R)’s to congress and NY sends 9? Or that those combined 23 (R)’s in the House of Rep’s are not important?
Neither do I. I’m not a supporter of the sanctuaries.
I first spoke up negatively about this when the Catholic Churches in the area were harboring them about twenty years ago.
Do you know that when I first started trying to warn the nation that illegal aliens were a problem back in the 90s, I was told it was a California issue and wouldn’t affect the nation.
I had people on the AOL Whitewater bulletin board and Free Republican tell me it just wasn’t important.
I said that it would be a plague on the nation. Very few would listen. I was called a racist, a xenophobe, and a person who just hated Mexicans.
I’ve been trying to talk sense to people for about 25 years on this issue, and folks have made it quite clear, it’s anyone elses problem but their own.
No, it’s the whole nation’s problem.
I 1989, our inland illegal alien abatement programs ceased to exist. There were no raids. There were no mass deportations. It was a free-for-all.

and of these how many are conservative. You forgot to mention that Maine sends Susan Collins.

Susan Collins votes conservative 45% of the time. Maine’s other Senator, liberal Independent Angus King votes conservative 6% of the time. Collins is so popular in that state that no one ran against her in the primary and she beat the Democrat by 36 points.
I find that hard to believe. Do you have those stats available?
I appreciate the fact that you know that there are
conservatives in California. That is more than some
critics will admit. But, that all of the companies
which relocated to Texas would have gone elsewhere is
debatable. Perry did a very good sales job.
Nationally, there is a strong conservative media
foundation which does a fair job of countering liberal
lies. We have no such situation in California although
we should. In all honesty I cannot offer hope of
a change except that I reside in a part of the state
which is within the proposed State of Jefferson boundaries.
Admittedly our chances are slim unless we can get
massive support from conservatives across the nation.
That is problematic because the promoters are
understably avoiding the left versus right aspect.
Here in NorCal we know that we tend to be right
minded but we dare not “go there” when it comes to
selling the state split idea.
Border politics and policy is under the control of the executive branch. As long as Big Agriculture in the central valley of California demands cheap labor and doesn’t care whether it is legal or illegal, cheap labor will continue to come.
I live 15 minutes drive from the border.
I’ve heard that 2 or 3 dozen Republicans have announced they will NOT run for 2018. Anyone have a list? Here is another FR site covering this story.

It will be interesting to see just how much the change in the Schedule A tax deductions hurts the Republican candidates. CA is really catching heck these days with fire, flood and landslides. My sympathies.
This is her lifetime record...last year it was 23%, this year was 21%...do you see a trend! She only votes right when she is put under pressure. There is a reason why in a liberal state she is safe. Only good thing about her is she helps keep the senate in our hands. I will admit she is probably the best we can do in Maine!!!
