Lack of set back from the street at that location. They moved, partly, for security reasons.

It sure is and the new American embassy is in the middle of not exactly nowhere, but in a weird place and NOT a handy one, for American tourists.

Looks like about a ten minute ride upriver by water taxi from Westminster, so not too bad. I don't know what the impetus was to relocate in the first place, but perhaps this new site is better able to be firmly secured.

I saw that power plant on a bus ride from Portsmouth to London. After the Pink Floyd album came out it became a tourist attraction so the driver made sure to let us know about it.

This is a slap in the face by the Brits, to relocate the American embassy where it’s in a premium location and sell off at a discount to the Saudis.

Read the article...this had less than NOTHING at all to do with the Brits and it was sold to Qatari Royals, NOT to Saudis!

Sometimes I wonder why we bother with allowing access to entire articles at all. ( Sigh)

Agreed! :-)

But I also wonder WHY so few people actually read the articles, prior to posting. It didn't used to be this way...posters actually used to read the article and THEN posted.

I still always read the article first and I bet that you do too.

In 2009 the Embassy Chancery Building was declared a Grade II Listed Historical Site. As such the building cannot be demolished, expanded, or altered significantly without advanced approval from the local planning commission.
