The illegals get welfare assistance, e.g., medicaid and food stamps, thru their US born children who are citizens at birth eligible for all the benefits that accrue to US citizenship.

Come on, now, consider the history.

Corn is an American plant, and from the earliest English settlements onwards, became the means of survival for our first ancestors. So to that, I agree on its nobility.

However, other crops may or may not be successful depending on climate and origin.

So Corn does very well in the South, but not wheat, and definitely not rye or barely, which could not survive the hot, humid summers. Potatoes don’t due well in the South for the same reason. Now I always grow Irish potatoes (as we Southrens call them), but I never get a great crop of big taters because they die off as soon as the humidity gets going. I can grow smaller ones, and I love ‘em. So I do. The real root crop down here is sweet taters, and they thrive in the South. Every year I try another old heritage variety and wind up planting and eating more and more of them...

So, our only real staples in the South is corn and yams. Since the colonial days, we also grew cash crops like tobacco, cotton and indigo, and even in costal Carolina we grew rice, but not enough to sell to the common man, nor would that grow beyond the coast.

Given that the average Southerner was a dirt poor farmer, and not a wealthy plantation owner, the common food for us was corn processed in various ways (drink it,{hic}, too!), sweet taters or yams, collards, the member of the cabbage family best suited for our climate, and Southern beans or peas. Meat was usually pork.

Those foods still greatly define Southern cooking. Corn can be ground into flour, but doesn’t make a cake-like bread as in wheat. Ground corn boiled in some water or milk is easy to make, and a common food item for early in the morning, where other choices Yankees might have had weren’t available.

Funny thing. I don’t normally eat grits. Mostly because my father hated them so my mother never cooked them. Then I spent 22 years in the USAF, with most places I’ve been didn’t have them. My ex, the Southern girl, loved them and always made them for my children.

So a few weeks ago, ROCKLOBSTER—a Mainiac for goodness sakes (Can you get more Yankee than THAT?) is begging me for recipes on grits. I told him I didn’t eat them so he insisted I man up and BE A SOUTHREN! So I got some raw grits and started playing around with them and now I realize I LOVE grits! Yum! Try some prepared the old and proper way and you might, too!

That’s when I realized that grits is a noble food of the old South and has a very proper and necessary role in Americana!

DACA is the camel's nose under the tent. The Dems want amnesty for all of the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens. They use the most sympathetic case, DACA, to gain acceptance for a blanket amnesty. Unfortunately, a majority of the public favors some sort of legalization for these "children" who have already been given SSNs and work permits.

Obama did this unconstitutional action knowing full well that it was a ticking bomb for the next President. If Hillary had won, there would have been a blanket amnesty. The RINOs would have supported it.

...unfortunately may tell us where FNC is headed with the new ownership...

Murdoch didn't sell Fox News; only all his TV and Movie holdings.

Fox News is still under him. Maybe his sons will change it, and probably have (for the worse), but it's still in the family.

Car engines don't run on grits either. Plugs up the filters. Not quite as destructive as sugar ...

Thanks. I left out Johnny cakes, or hoe cakes (fried on a hoe!).

That was another easy way to process ground corn into food in the South, but are fried not boiled. So more attention is needed to cook ‘em without burning them and fresh out of bed Southern women preferred the easier to make cooking method of grits. At least some of them did.

Just looked up the history of Indians using corn and found that from the Pennecook tribe in Maine to the Seminoles/Creeks in the South, all natives made hoe cakes and grits. Milk corn (corn on the cob) only lasted a few short weeks. Why grits didn’t stay on in the North with Europeans is a mystery.

Polenta is just Italian grits, BTW...

Correct. When we catch them they need to be detained and processed for deportion. The only money we should spend on them is the salaries of the police and ICE, and 3 hots and cot until such time as they are returned to where they came from.

"Must we stand naked before the faceless NSA?"

Actually.....yes.

Back a half century, or more, ago, the only wired microphone in your house was in your telephone. It was wired directly to the telephone company, but could be disconnected by you whenever you placed the handset on the black buttons on the receiver. When the handset was lifted, however, you stood naked before anyone at the telephone office who chose to listen in. Many more than you thought at the time, did. However, the only way honest law officials could listen in, was to physically 'tap' connectors to the wires from your phone. That's why it's called 'wiretapping'.

Now there can be dozens of microphones, and cameras, for that matter, in your home. They're in all your phones, they can be in your TVs, your tablets, your PCs, even in your thermostats, toasters, and bathtubs. Many are continuously hooked up to power, and transmit wirelessly to numerous locations.

In order to 'wiretap' criminals and spies, the government can't just get only some of these inputs because they don't know in advance what to get. So it gets ALL of them. That's right, the US government records EVERYTHING that's on the data backbone. You do, indeed, stand naked before the NSA. You rely on the honesty of the federal government to look only under the towels of those for which it has a court approved 'search warrant'. The real issue here is that Obama and his minions did not deserve that trust. They looked under the towels of any one they wished.

I'm sure that's the law but where does it end? How do we afford to keep buying votes for the dems with little or no money in the budget?

Where does it end?

To me the dems have set up the DACA BS scenario while totally ignoring the overriding issue which is that we do not have an immigration policy in the US and we desperately need one.

Sen Bennett of Colorado on mtp with F.Chuck just said; "we haven't had a budget in ten years" as if it's the Republicans fault.!!

As log as we let the dems lie their way out of issue after issue we will keep losing. Sooner or later the light of truth has to be the rule instead of the exception.

Xavier Becerra is talking out of his sheethole. "No President is above the law"....which is why Trump is forcing congress to codify this into law, versus Obama who EO'd around the law.

Paraphrase: "It's ironic a son of immigrants (himself who would be a great presidential candidate, wink, wink) is swinging the cudgel to defeat Trump..we're 4 for 4." WTF ? I believe they've been overturned 3 of 3, and this latest would be the 4th. Am I mistaken ?
