Obama, Trump, and the Silliness of Spielberg's The Post

"The way they lied," says the Ben Bradlee character in Steven Spielberg's preposterous new film, The Post, "those days have to be over. We have to be the check on their power. If we don't hold them accountable – my God, who will?"

This is the same Ben Bradlee, by the way, who retrieved the diary of his sister-in-law, Mary Pinchot Meyer, after she was murdered and burned the pages having to do her affair with Bradlee's pal, President John Kennedy. The murder took place less than a year after JFK's assassination and three weeks after the release of the Warren Commission report. Meyer's ex-husband was CIA. Bradlee collaborated with the CIA to destroy the evidence. Thanks in no small part to Bradlee's intervention, the murder was never solved. This is just one of the minor ironies that render the movie absurd.

A larger irony is that the movie should have been rightly called The Times, since it was the New York Times that ran all the risk in publishing the Pentagon Papers that contractor Daniel Ellsberg had pilfered, not the Washington Post. "It's as though Hollywood had made a movie about the [Times'] triumphant role in Watergate," said James Goodale, the Times' in-house attorney when the papers were published.

Re-writing history to make the Washington Post the “victim” and Nixon the “villain”.

The lying in the Pentagon Papers was done by Democrats, and the Post held the upper hand in power, not President Nixon.

The media had already destroyed Senator McCarthy, elected Kennedy, and helped push thru Johnson’s “Great Step Forward..er Great Society”, and defeated the U.S. military in Vietnam, by publishing lies at home.”

The Washington Post and the U.S. media are the great villains in historical realilty.

Yep, the Media’s first job when Nixon took office was to make Vietnam “Nixon’s War”, and make them forget all about LBJ’s involvement.

I do not want to see this movie as I am fed up with revisionist history. Do they actually pretend the Pentagon Papers had anything to do with Nixon, except his attempts to not have them published in order to protect the respect for the Presidency itself?? He was trying to protect two DEMOCRAT Presidents!! The Left has no conscience at all!!

The author references “Hero” Ben Bradlee’s role in this stupid movie and notes that his destruction of his murdered sister-in-law’s Mary Meyer’s diary was done to protect JFK’s “reputation”. So much for “journalism” at that wretched newspaper. But he doesn’t note what was far worse; that a local black man had been arrested for a capital crime he didn’t commit and that the diary would have been exculpatory evidence. No, the great “liberal” and “truth seeker” Ben Bradlee destroyed the evidence that would have freed this innocent man, who was then subject to the death penalty in DC and Bradlee said nary a peep about it to save him. Ultimately, the black man was released for lack of evidence, but not for a damned reason associated with the evil Bradlee or Madame Graham’s equally evil newspaper, “The Post.” From Judgment at Nuremberg, quoting Richard Widmark as the Army Prosecutor: “You lost your integrity the minute you were willing to send a man you knew was innocent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit”. Bradlee never had any integrity, nor does his lousy newspaper.

The Chicago Sun Times bought a bar and called it “The Mirage”. It was set up to sting Chicago city officials on the take. Pam Zekman set it up and Zay N. Smith was the reporter who wrote it all up, (playing the bartender, I think).

This investigation was nominated for the Pulitzer prize.

WAPO’s Ben Bradlee protested on the grounds that the reporters used undercover reporting, a form of deception, to report the story. Because of Bradlee, the Pulitzer withdrew the nomination.

Just as the media has worked with and continues to work with the Dems to make the GOP the racist party, when historically it is the Dem Party that gave us the KKK, Jim Cow, separate but equal etc.

Funny, 44 years later and Americans are still asking the same question.

Yep, LBJ and McNamara were a major cause of why Vietnam went bad.

Good luck telling that to the snowflakes, to them, it as all "Tin Soldiers and Nixon's Drumming."

It is like the Moon Landing. Nixon was the one who got it done but JFK gets all the credit because he made a speech.

The Vietnam War? JFK started it, LBJ expanded it and Nixon ended it. Then the Democrat congress went back on their word and turned it into a defeat. Thanks EMK! (Edward Moore Kennedy)

Reality.

It is not for liberals.
