Phil Murphy, a Democrat entering elected office for the first time, was sworn in as the Garden State's 56th governor just before noon Tuesday during a ceremony at the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton.
Murphy, a former U.S. ambassador to Germany and multimillionaire former Wall Street executive, succeeded Chris Christie, a Republican who left office after eight years.
Surrounded by his family, Murphy -- a 60-year-old Middletown resident -- was sworn in by state Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner in the midst of a festive ceremony.

We can thank CHRIS CHRISTIE, Mr. Drug Expert, for Murphy beating Guadagno. Christie was the most hated governor in New Jersey History. Jesus Christ or even Mohammad ( :) ) could not have beaten a Democrat thanks to His Immenseness!!!

As far as I know, New Jersey has never elected a governor from the same party as a departing two-term governor in decades -- if at all.
If anything, the biggest factor in the GOP's decline in New Jersey has been the massive out-migration of Republicans from this state over the last 25+ years.
True. A lot of Republicans have left NJ since Florio. Whitman barely beat Florio or McGreevey!!
Christie won a landslide reelection in 2013 because he had crossover appeal to suburban New Jersey Democrats!

Not a fan of Christie, although he did veto a bunch of anti-gun bills the rats put up. Murphy is a disaster. It won’t be long before you see memes with Christie’s picture saying, “Miss me yet?”

I grew up in NJ...I have no sympathy for whatever incarnate of the devil!
As the upper crust steps up the exodus, the middle and upper lower class will get socked with higher property taxes.

Murphy is bad news. He’s Corzine II, only worse, (except that he didn’t lose millions of customers’ $$ in a big, misguided hedge fund bet.) Higher taxes, official sanctuary state, and more liberal policies. He may get push back on taxes given the property tax deduction cap, but there’s a Dem legislature here, so.... If he doesn’t address it there likely will be an exodus of sorts, like what happened in CT after they raised taxes.
