Well.... nice effort guys but.... you’re stupid. Contra Costa is lib. Santa Clara is Silicon Valley for Pete’s sake and I think has somewhere near 2 million residents. Orange County doesn’t even live off its “”Republican stronghold” fumes any more, and think we’re doomed to lose San Diego as well. This would be as rigidly a ‘rat state as California is now, wither Republican hinterland tyrannized by these I’ve mentioned

New California" Conservative Movement Declares Independence As First Step Towards 51st State

A group called "New California" has taken its first step towards carving the Golden State in two - issuing a "declaration of independence" which would incorporate most of the state's rural counties - while coastal counties from the northern San Francisco Bay Area to the southern tip of Los Angeles would remain part of the existing state.

Quoted by CBS, founder Paul Preston said "Well, it's been ungovernable for a long time. High taxes, education, you name it, and we're rated around 48th or 50th from a business climate and standpoint in California."

"There's something wrong when you have a rural county such as this one, and you go down to Orange County which is mostly urban, and it has the same set of problems, and it happens because of how the state is being governed and taxed," Preston said.

The group is serious about this effort - printing pamphlets (here and here and here) citing authority granted in the U.S. Constitution "to provide a republican form of government as guaranteed by Article IV, Section 4," which co-founder Robert Paul Preston says has not been the case in California for a long time. “There’s something wrong when you have a rural county such as this one, and you go down to Orange County which is mostly urban, and it has the same set of problems, and it happens because of how the state is being governed and taxed,” Preston said.

As we seek to remain a member of our Union, in order to form a more perfect Union we resolve to create the Free, Sovereign and Independent State of New California due to the past and current government of California having failed in their oath of office, obligations, and responsibilities as representatives of “We the People” to provide a republican form of government as guaranteed by Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution.

The history of the present Governor and Government of California is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of a Tyranny over the Counties of New California and the State of California.

Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to seek a constitutional remedy to the abuse of powers. We the people of the Counties of New California solemnly publish and declare these counties are, and of Right ought to be, a free and Independent State, that we strive to be free from the State of California, and that as a Free and Independent State, have full power to establish and maintain law and order, to promote general prosperity, and to do all other acts and things, which an Independent New California State may rightfully do.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the Counties of New California, appeal to the California Legislature and the Federal Congress to pass resolutions to create the State of New California.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor.

Another California secession movement. Taking a different path than the previous two that attempted to use citizen initiatives, this one seems more plausible. if nothing else you don't need a multi-million dollar budget to meet with all the California Assemblymen and Senators, a small team could do that over a few months.

The last serious bout of American Secessionism involved 13 states are led to the Civil War.

Thus, we have to wonder where something like this will lead, therefore,

About the CWII Ping List

The CWII Ping List is short for Civil War II. It is NOT a list of people advocating another Civil War in America. It is a list of people who are interested in the parallels between the Civil War (or War Between the States, if you prefer) and our current situation, or more generally are noting the references to a 'coming Civil War' that are made in the press.

Of course sometimes this is merely a figure of speech, such as "The Tea Parties are fighting a civil war for the heart of the GOP". This would not merit a CWII ping.

On the other hand someone saying something like "The events in California are reminiscent of what happened in Yugoslavia in the period proceeding the Civil War" would merit a ping.

FR rules do not permit advocating for the overthrow of the Republic, and I am not aware of anyone doing so on the list. Still many do see that as the political climate worsens we may be heading in a direction that makes such a conflict all but inevitable, particularly if other avenues for resolving our differences are taken away. Such as widespread vote fraud by leftists making elections meaningless, or a small cadre of judges over-ruling all attempts to end destructive policies over the clear will of the people.

I lived there in the early 1990s. A good friend stayed in Santa Cruz, where he had a paid for house and he was near retirement. Now he’s in his early 70s and the gun laws are becoming truly stupid. I believe you have to show ID to buy ammo. Massive taxes on that ammo, too. All sorts of guns are banned. All sorts of magazines are banned.

That’s his main hobby, so even though he’s in a nice house in a (still pretty) nice neighborhood, he’s being pushed out.

Another self-sufficient Californian gone, to be replaced by a welfare parasite.

He’s been active in trying to get the County to stop catering to heroin addicts. Santa Cruz has a huge population of junkies, and the city/county do all sorts of stuff for “the homeless”, who, when not mooching off the libtarded Social Services and community group charity do normal junkie things like break into cars, steal bicycles, and leave AIDS infected needles all over playgrounds and beaches.

Take Oregon. The real Democratic base is the northwest part of the state (around Medford and Portland). The entire eastern part of the state and south part along the coast? Mostly leaning toward the GOP. The real population around the state though...is mostly centered on Portland and four other significant cities....which are urban-magnets for Democrats. The state really ought to be into at least two states...maybe even three.

Same situation exists in the State of Washington. Instead of having the border run horizontally along the Columbia River, the two states should be divided vertically along the Cascade Range. Put Western Washington and Western Oregon into one state and call it Washington. Put Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon into one state and call it Oregon.
