On SNL, it dawns on the left that its tantrum over Trump is falling flat

I don't watch television, but as part of a video classroom assignment on how show segments are strung together, I ended up watching Saturday Night Live. I watch it anyway on YouTube for the glimpse it gives on how the left "thinks."

I watched the opening segment last night, which was a mirthless five-minute take attempting to convince us President Trump was dumb. Later on in the program, at the half-hour mark, the second political skit, led by actress and guest host Jessica Chastain was more interesting.

Using the format of a cheesy game show with a panel of three contestants, Chastain asked her contenders in the five-minute segment whether this or that action of President Trump's "matters anymore."

What Even Matters Anymore - SNL

Smearing politicians as hapless idiots works when said politicians allow themselves to be used as doormats.

Trump is nobody’s doormat.

Oh My God that was HORRIBLE!!

SNL used to be edgy but now that was just the most lame thing I’ve seen Even on YouTube!! Makes some of those Star Trek Fan movies seem like they should get the Cecil B DeMille awards.

Their facts are wrong on all of the issues too.

Mr. Bill was a favorite of mine——in those days EVERYONE was a target——funniest show ever.

The first year they had The Land of Gorch, done by Jim Henson and his Muppets. Funny as all get out and I liked Skrid.

Too bad Henson backed out so they put them in an old chest and then said that Gorch would come back if the Beatles got together and came on the show.

Best times started with Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Bill Murray, etc. Ended with Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Phil Hartman. After that it was, and is, crap.

The Judy Miller Show
Emily Latella
Rosanne Rosannadanna

Gilda Radner was a comic genius.

Your mind is too closed. And, you might just be out of their demographics by now.

>>Was SNL EVER relevant?

Yes. It was once relevant and funny. It abandoned funny after about 10 years and gave up relevant in 2001. Now its just angry Progressives smirking at their own jokes in front of an audience of NYC Progressives.

SNL >>> SND

Saturday Night Dead as a doornail with me.

If they covered even one thing that actually took place, couldn’t prove it by me. The things they talked about were things he hasn’t done.

It was a really tedious skit. You wind up thinking, “None of this has a real foundation for being lampooned.”

In the land of the make believe, it’s putrid.

“Trump has relations with his son? Does it really matter?”

Man these folks have vile minds.

I’m old enough to remember when SNL was actually funny.

Me too. Long ago, SNL had content that was non-political and original.

I'm giving away my age but I'm probably one of the few here who saw the very first episode of SNL as it was presented live in October of 1975. I was just a 13 year old boy and I learned of the show in a newspaper article that I read the previous August while flying from Atlanta to Boston. Ironically, as I was reading the article, my plane was flying right over Manhattan and I could see the (then) RCA building below me in Rockefeller Center, where the show would be aired.

I made a mental note to check out the show and it became a must watch for many, many years. Even during the horrible shows of the early 1980s (when Lorne Michaels was off the show), I stuck with it and was rewarded by what I feel was the true glory days of the mid 80s to mid 90s. So many comic geniuses put in some time on SNL during that era. Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Jon Lovitz, David Spade, Norm MacDonald, Dennis Miller, Victoria Jackson and Mike Myers to name just a few. (And many of those people were conservatives in real life as well).

Even when Trump got into the presidential race, I continued to watch. That early 2016 show when Trump actually hosted was hilarious. But as soon as it became obvious that Trump was going to be the nominee, the show got cruel and mean-spirited about all things Trump. It just wasn't funny anymore.

For over 40 years, that show was a mainstay in my life but it's dead to me now.

The Left is always blinded by its own conceits. That’s why Trump’s support utterly baffles it. For instance, it’s an unquestioned assumption of the Left that the Right is comprised of hypocritical evangelicals. The Left assumes that the slightest accusation of moral impropriety would destroy their support of Trump, but there are two problems with this. First, the Left assumes the absolute truth of anything reported in the liberal media. The Right does not. Second, evangelicals have a deeper understanding of bort human nature and forgiveness than does the Left, and they better understand the simple truth of of “Let he who is without sin, cast the fist stone”.
