Trey Gowdy Gives Clues To What’s In FISA Abuse Memo [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | January 28, 2018 | Chuck Ross

Lawmakers have been reluctant to discuss a classified four-page memo alleging that the FBI and Justice Department abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in order to spy on Trump campaign associates, but South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy provided several clues on Sunday to what’s in the controversial document.

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Gowdy posed several questions to host Chris Wallace and his viewers that hinted at the allegations in the memo, which could be released by the House Intelligence Committee as early as this week.

“If you think your viewers want to know whether or not the dossier was used in court proceedings, whether or not it was vetted before it was used, whether or not it’s ever been vetted — if you are interested in who paid for the dossier, if you are interested in Christopher Steele’s relationship with Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, then, yes, you will want the memo to come out,” Gowdy told Wallace.

“Do you want to know that the Democratic National Committee paid for material that was never vetted, that was included in a court proceeding?” he asked rhetorically.

“Do you want to know whether or not the primary source in these court proceedings had a bias against one candidate? Do you want to know whether or not he said he’d do anything to keep that candidate from becoming president?”

Gowdy’s reference to a source who said they opposed Donald Trump is unclear, though he would seem to be talking about Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the dossier.

Steele had been hired by Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm that was paid $1 million by the Clinton campaign and DNC to investigate Trump.

Steele met with FBI agents in July 2016 and several months later to discuss his investigation of Trump. The bureau and DOJ reportedly used Steele’s work in an application for a surveillance warrant taken out against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Republican lawmakers have pressed the FBI and DOJ over how heavily they relied on the dossier for the warrant and for the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government. Republicans also want to know whether the agencies vetted the dossier prior to using it in any FISA application.

In a Senate hearing last June, former FBI Director James Comey called the dossier “salacious and unverified.”

Gowdy declined to confirm reports that the dossier was used to obtain the FISA warrant. He said that that information is classified at this point and he’s not allowed to discuss it. But Republicans will be able to get around that restriction if the Intelligence Committee votes to release the memo, which Gowdy helped write.

Democratic lawmakers have called the memo a set of talking points aimed at helping Trump, and the Justice Department sent a letter to committee chairman Devin Nunes calling the release “extremely reckless.”

In his interview, Gowdy said that he has suggested that Nunes allow the FBI and Justice Department to view the memo prior to its release. But he says that the information contained in the document is based on information already provided by those agencies.

“There’s nothing in this memo the Department is not already aware of,” Gowdy said on Sunday.

“...just political theater...”
___

That’s definitely what it looks like to me. So far. I’ve seen this movie at the Political Theater before. And I don’t even like to watch movies I like more than once.

A revelation here, a drip there. And it grinds into the second year with everyone still in their jobs, no change whatsoever, and even Jeff Sessions at DOJ pushing to keep information secret. the only “special counsel” is still Mueller, appointed by a holdover Assistant AG Rosenstein, accountable to no one, still chasing Russian ghosts.

As long as the current DOJ configuration is kept, the Deep State will remain. Sessions should have been the one to reconfigure it. But he's recused, and he's left Deep State RosenSwamp in charge.

So that leaves it up to the president to take the slings and arrows. Thanks Jeff.

Exactly.

Look at reality...nothing ever comes of these “explosive” things....

The best to hope for is Mueller ends his investigation with nothing, Trump fires several top FBI and DOJ Obama holdovers, replaces Sessions, and then get back to normal operations, MAGA.... cutting government, signing a budget, creating jobs, cutting taxes again....that’s real and will get him elected again.

Rosenstein is not a holdover. He was appointed by Trump and approved by the Senate. He is Trump’s guy, not Obama’s.

Rosenstein is a Mueller/Comey guy. He helped bury Uranium One, which helped Hillary and Obama. His wife is a big DC lawyer who works for a law firm that does lots of work for the Clintons and Obama. I believe she has personally done some of that work herself.

Exactly, Trey Gowdy missed his calling. He aspired to replace Rowdy Yates but failed in the casting call.
Missing out on fame, fortune, and fawning - he had to make a living doing 'SOMETHING' important

But this morning, I noticed a distinct difference.

I've had Fox on and off mute today and every time I pay attention to a program they seem to be discussing whether Trump will go against the advice of his DOJ and recommend the release of that memo. That seems be their Sunday obsession this week.

I only want him exposed as the fraud that he is, but unfortunately it exposes too many other frauds.

So what?

DIRTY is DIRTY.

I don’t care if R, D, I, Lib, Cons, Libertarian, if DIRTY bring it out and treat ALL the same.

Like has been said, there is NO such thing as being a ‘little bit pregnant’ you either is or you ain’t.

For God’s sake why did Gowdy say that?

I've heard him express his complete confidence in Mueller before. I think he's been saying that all along.

"The subject of Abraham Lincoln's "Lyceum" speech was citizenship in a democratic republic and threats to American institutions. In the speech, Lincoln discussed in glowing terms the political system established by the founding fathers, but warned of a destructive force from within. He asked his listeners:

'Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer. If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide.' - Abraham Lincoln, Lyceum Speech

Comey called the dossier “salacious and unverified.”

That is a weak statement. Anyone interested in the truth or with any sense of possibilities and probabilities would have called in somewhere between total fabrication and unvarnished lies, in fact, a total and utter fraud, since the lies were intended that others relie upon them to their ultimate damage.

I can understand why Freepers would be suspicious of anyone in the DOJ, but I don’t understand why anyone would accept that narrative at face value. Does anyone really believe that the man who ran such a sharp campaign and staged the most stunning political upset in a hundred years would get rolled so easily by his own appointees? Seriously?

What did you want Gowdy to do? He’s not a prosecutor anymore.

I think this is what I heard...or close...

Gowdy said....If the (Dem paid for) dossier was only 20% of the means to get a FISA warrant, would that be okay?

We’ll have a better sense of it this week. They’ve indicated the memo will be released. If it isn’t, they you are right.

Rosenstein was ‘nominated’ by Sessions as per protocol, but he was ‘brought’ to Sessions by others. Sessions as a newbie followed the recommendations of others and Trump followed suit.

Trump is much, much wiser now, and we would hope Sessions is likewise wiser.
