The Senate was intended to be the equivalent of the House of Lords, the House the House of Commons and the Executive the King. This is the intention from the beginning.

That was not a problem but the beautiful balance was destroyed when Senators began to be elected. Now it is just a longer-serving House.

The Senate was supposed to represent the interest of the state governments. There are only a hundred of them, they are not all elected at once, and they serve for 6 years.

So once the 17th Amendment was passed, it was easy for Big Money and the media outlets to control who can afford to run for office and who is elected. Once our businesses went international, international corporations fund those candidates who support their interests.

It's time to repeal the 17th amendment and establish term limits on the federal level so that citizen input is reflected by our representatives.
