Regardless of party, Congress has no advise and consent role over firings in the Executive Branch.


Andrew Johnson was impeached, but not convicted, over this. Congress had passed a law, over Johnson’s veto, saying that he could not fire officials without Congress’s approval. The law was later repealed and later Supreme Court rulings implied that the law was Unconstitutional.

Sadly, the Senate failed by one vote to remove him.
