History cannot be proven by the scientific method. It can only be done by reviewing the historic documents of the day, and determining if the witnesses are reliable or not.That is the scientific method in a nutshell - accumulating evidence and judging which is reliable.

Except that definition doesn’t include repeatable experiments to prove/dispove the theory.
