I get calls from collectors as a result of the utility co screwing up when I moved 2 years ago.I’ve told them that just because they say I owe them doesn’t make it so. Threats about my credit rating simply don’t matter to me since I pay cash or don’t buy stuff.
Nonetheless, they ask for so and so and I indignantly and in my most irritated voice, which my wife says is very off putting and intimidating, demand to know who is calling, who is it they are looking for and why. When they ID themselves and say they are calling for so and so I say, never heard of him you are bothering me! By the time the very short,terse and one sided conversation ends they have apologised and taken my number off their list. I tell them it is rude to call someone and not identify yourself first. Things go quiet for months and then I guess someone else buys the account to try it again.
Telemarketers i just yell at since my lawyer told me it isn’t legal to ask for their number and tell them I will track them down and break their legs. Some kind of federal offense or something is involved.
