White House tell agencies to prepare for shutdown as Rand Paul holds up key vote

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is preventing a two-year budget deal from passing, as the White House advised federal agencies to prepare for the government to start shutting down at midnight.

Congressional negotiators were scrambling earlier Thursday to lock in enough votes in the House, and that was before Paul, a Republican, made public his dissatisfaction with the deal, which would raise government spending, avert a government shutdown and lift the debt ceiling.

A senior administrative official said the White House is instructing agencies to begin shutdown preparations in the event that Congress fails to pass a budget before the midnight deadline.

you know what perfectly pure senator paul would be doing if he was President?

exactly what DJT is doing. it’s called reality. the only difference is that he wouldn’t be in the senate to single handedly destroy his own agenda.

I’d be happy if Trump told congress that he finds himself persuaded by many of Rand’s points, and has decided to shut it down and not to sign this thing, and that they should consider actually doing their constitutionally mandated jobs.

if DJT was in harmony with rand paul’s points, then trump would have won zero primaries in 2016, as well.

we wouldn’t be having this conversation because he wouldn’t be president.

that’s sort of tbe whole point.

Why is Paul standing alone.
Where is Cruz and Lee?

that actually works in our favor. the bigger risk was that the senate forced daca amnesty into the budget deal.

This spending abomination adds $500,000,000,000.00 to the deficit. Get a clue. This deal sucks!

He’s just a grandstander. Does he even participate when they are debating the bill? Does he fight to get things included or does he just wait until the last moment.

I really don’t know this but that is what it always sounds like to me.

Agreed. What is there not to like. Increased spending, no funding for a border wall, full funding for planned Parenthood, and can’t think of a core issue Democrats caved on. Rand is out of line on this one.

I’ll hold judgment til we see how the markets react. He could be right but it may be a fart in a hurricane if the Dow drops another 1000 points or more

If Sen. Paul wanted money he would be taking kick backs from multinational companies that would make a nice profit from the billions of dollars that we will have to borrow to pay for this 2 year “budget”. The guy mows his own grass for criss sake. He might live in a gated community but so did a crazy disabled anesthesiologist who hasn’t worked in 10 years. Not exactly millionaires row.

Somebody has to stop this madness. The RINO’s sure aren’t. Stop the bill. Pass a short CR. Force a bill through congress that balances the budget. Conservatives cannot support the same deficits that we got from the Obama disaster.

daca, military funding that outstrips domestic increases by 100%, schumer has been flipped and nancy pelosi is f*cking catatonic.

dude. perspective. I’m not particularly fond of the damn thing either, but it’s nuts to play it as a 100% cave in.

We have a central bank that can print any amount of fiat money, and monetize any amount of debt. How could any politician resist unlimited spending?

An unbacked, printed currency will always favor the Government, and its cronies. Its why everyone’s a progressive SJW now.

I guess the military can take it in the shorts again. Paul has always been anti-military.

Lee is talking about how Americans are being ignored and disrespected by the current process. He wants it to stop now. Right now.
