I don’t give them the benefit of the doubt. The FBI knew the work was fiction. What it has to do now is build a case that it had good faith and was fooled. I’m not buying it.
What explains the FBI belief?
A deep hatred of Trump and the Constitutional process
If they were fooled that easily, then they’re in the wrong line of work.
The Attorney General is going to have to play rough for the sake of America to isolate these subversives.
(He may not be capable.)
FBI Director Wray does not admit The Dossier is false, even at this late date.
I think Steele and Fusion GPS are quasi independent spooks specializing in disinformation for intelligence services.
I don’t think the FBI really has “deep faith” in Steele. That is what Comey said, but Comey is a serial liar. He was asked why they used the dossier, given that the information was not verified, which apparently was a prerequisite under the FBI’s policy manual. He had to have some explanation, and faith in Steele was the only thing he could think of.
Good post. A lie from the beginning. They had to try and get others to believe it.
I believe that if he FBI wants to spy on you, they will use anything to get it the warrant. I also believe they do it routinely.
How many of these FBI Execs came up through the ranks? That is started as SAs (SAs who spent time away from the Beltway)! vs how many are direct hires to senior positions from politically connected Beltway bandit DC law and political PR firms? Do that calculation and you will have your answer.

There ya go. Thanks for the clear thinking. I do believe the natural tendency of conservatives to see the good in all and work with the other side is no longer an option.
Of course the FBI was not fooled by Steele’s dossier. They knew in fact it was false because they had been providing much of the information on which it was based.
They lied because they were operating as a political agent hell bent on destroying Trump and electing Hillary. They failed.
Steele and Fusion produce what you ask them to produce. If you wanted a report that Mexico was secretly supporting the Kardashian empire...they would produce such a report. If they didn’t produce like this...someone else would go and do it.
FBI #2 (and #3) Bowdich - Special Agent
National Security Branch head Ghattas - Special Agent
Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch head Abbate - Special Agent
Intelligence Branch head Skule - Special Agent
They didn't believe a word of it. They knew it was fake. They lied to the court to get a tap on the Trump Campaign's phones knowing that the NSA would unmask everything and report to Obama and Clinton and her campaign.
This was a High Tech Watergate on Steroids.
Maybe I have missed it somewhere, but I don’t remember seeing these basic questions answered.
1. Did the FISA Application(s) identify Carter Page as an Advisor to Donald Trump and/or being a member of the Trump Campaign?
2. Did the FISA Application disclose that Carter Page had already left the Trump Campaign the previous month?
3. Did the judge know that Carter Page was/had been a Trump advisor?
4. When was the FISA Warrant Application actually submitted to the judge, and when did the judge actually sign the warrant?
If the answer to any of questions 1, 2 or 3 is “Yes”, how in the world did a judge grant the FBI a FISA warrant based on the Steele Dossier? This was playing with political plutonium, and the judge would have known that.
Oh well.. So much for my theory !
