NYPD Commissioner: ‘Insanity’ to Allow National Concealed Carry for Law-Abiding Citizens

New York Police Department commissioner James O’Neill says it is “insanity” to allow national concealed carry reciprocity for law-abiding citizens.

He suggested more guns will only lead to more violence, although a 2012 Congressional Research Service study showed that a massive increase in private gun ownership–from 192 million firearms in 1994 to 310 million firearms in 2009–correlated with sharp drops in crime.

Moreover, the Crime Prevention Research Center (CRPC) has shown that concealed carry permit holders are among the most law-abiding of law-abiding citizens. To highlight how just how law-abiding concealed carriers are CPRC juxtaposed crimes by police versus crimes by concealed carry permit holders. They used Texas permit holders as their sample

It’s better when just criminals and illegals are carrying.

Before or after a national CCW permit? There are very very few CCW’s granted in NYC; you have to be either retired cop, politician, prove you carry large amounts of case (then questioned as to why you are) and others of the elite class. My comment had to do with that idiot police guy’s statement about a safer NYC and said “yeah, right. Like Chicago with their super restrictive gun laws”

Its not allowing more carriers.

Same number of carriers, just allowed to carry in all states.

The 2a is in the constitution, yet carry across all states is “insane.”

No right to gay marriage in the constitution yet they force it across all states. No constitutional right for states to recognize others drivers licenses, not a constitutional right, yet forced across all the states. Abortion is nowhere in the constitution, yet forced on all the states.

All laws are based in morality. The real issue is whose morality is it going to be in your laws, one that reflects yours, or reflects their morality?

My comment is that with this new law I can have permit in one state and carry in other states. If NY thinks it’s bad it may increase their tourism.

I think this is too much on my simple statement. Good day.

“He suggested more guns will only lead to more violence”

Well if that’s the case maybe the NYPD should get rid of all of theirs.

I can tell you, growing up in NY, nobody had a gun, nobody saw a gun, nobody talked about having guns.

It’s hard for people like that to grasp the way the rest of the country lives.

Your entire post is false.
NY is bad enough without making things up.
Let’s stick to the facts.

Most large city LEOs are opposed to carrying. Not for some nefarious desire to control the people, but because there are a multitude of everyday confrontations in large cities from traffic accidents to arguing over a parkjng space that they fear could turn deadly if one or both are carrying. There is also the rank and file LEO’s worry that the angry driver being ticketed or the loud drunk being ousted from the bar may be carrying and use his weapon on the cop. These while occuring in Main St America happen with much greater frequency in a large city.

O’Neill fails to ...state the obvious–that criminals are already carrying guns. They are not waiting for national reciprocity so they can legally carry guns with which to commit crimes. Therefore, national reciprocity is not about allowing “anybody” to come into New York City with a gun, but allowing law-abiding citizens, i.e., concealed carry permit holders, to come into the city armed for self-defense.

Nicely summarized.

Concealed carriers are, as a group...

...Armed and Harmless!

If people need to, they just get a gun and don’t inform the authorities.

The truth is, the government has no business telling you that you can’t defend your life without its permission.

Sure, carrying a gun in NYC without a permit is a felony but your life is more important than a piece of paper or the threat of prison.

And under Heller, NY’s 1911 gun control law is unconstitutional.

Comrade Chief should then disarm all of his department. After all, their being armed DOES lead to gun violence. They DO shoot people, themselves.

Disarm the NYPD, Comrades Mayor and Chief.

...a massive increase in private gun ownership–from 192 million firearms in 1994 to 310 million firearms in 2009...

That is deeply tragic and disturbing to learn.

It probably means most guns are now plastic frame semi-autos.

Just say "yes" to blue steel!

People don’t even have to go to a gun store to buy a gun.

They can 3D print one, making a gun control law obsolete... no paper trail to follow.

Technology has rendered futile gun grabbers dreams of absolute confiscation.

“Concealed carriers are, as a group...”

I haven’t had to draw a weapon on a criminal since 1973, and on that occasion the mere display of the weapon broke up the crime.

DeBlasio and O’Neill look upon the people of NYC as the enemy.

No wonder they fear and hate the prospect of them legally defending themselves.

As if that’s any of their business in the first place.
