You sound like some of my better off friends. 😇

No seriously we had no sink.

Many a family lived in two room shotgun houses some only had one. The house we had, dad moved in from a ghost mining town left over from the lead and zinc boom of WW II. Twenty by twenty divided into four rooms, no insulation no sheet rock inside just bare walls. My bedroom today is twice as big as my entire old child hood home was.

You do the best you can with what you got. And keep an eye open for opportunities.

After my wife and I married we lived in a rental property owned by wife’s mom and dad. It was the old home place where she had been raised. It wasn’t exactly the Taj Mahal and was in poor condition having been rental property for a good number of years.

They agreed to let us live there rent-free for maintaining and improving the place while we saved up for a down payment on a home of our own. We agreed and patched the sheet rock holes in the walls, leaky roof, kept the yard and pasture mowed, and anything else that needed to be done. Several years later we were able to buy our own home. And the her parents were finally able to sell the place and get out of the rental business.

Funny, her parents had offered the same deal to each of her siblings but none wanted it. But we considered it an opportunity even though we lost a few affluent friends and took some digs from the other siblings and in-laws along the way. But we did OK.

I know it sounds scary to many snowflakes but they’ve got to get out of their safe zones and parent’s basement and make a start on their own someday. Unless they inherit enough assets to maintain standard of living, they may be surprised at how cold the world can become for those that don’t plan ahead and save something back for a rainy day.
