The 19-year-old who is accused of killing 17 people and injuring dozens more when he opened fire on a South Florida high school Wednesday afternoon told investigators that he heard voices in his head, giving him instructions on what to do to conduct the attack, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
The voices were described as "demons" by law enforcement sources.
Those who knew suspect Nikolas Cruz described him as a troubled teen who was largely alone in the world. An attorney for the family who had taken Cruz in after his adoptive mother died said he was "depressed" following her death but had been going to therapy, while a student who participated in Junior ROTC with Cruz described him as a "psycho" who was enthusiastic about weapons.
Cruz was apprehended by authorities more than an hour after he was dropped off on campus by an Uber, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said in a press conference Thursday.

If this murderer and his attorneys go for the insanity plea, they’re going to have a steep hill to climb. Cruz was deliberate and methodical in how he got into the school and then escaped. I am sure he’s seriously mentally ill, but he acted in a way which makes it clear he knew right from wrong.
And besides, he confessed. The only question now is whether he gets the death penalty or not.
What with the FBI bending over backwards to keep hands off this monster, I am beginning to believe it.

Voice recognition will match Mueller.
Have to keep that drum beating, you see.
I was just kidding about the waterboarding. What would be good justice in my mind would be a prefrontal lobotomy. Give him an IQ of about 45 and let him spend the rest of his life sorting glass.
Merely the fact of the incompetence or malevolence of the government players in this would lend credence to the concept of this guy being a victim. IF they had remotely done their jobs there would be 17 people still alive and his life wouldnt be shit now.
That brings up a further point. The governments repeated fumbling of the circumstances leading up to many (most?) of these tragedies is mind bogglingly consistent. One can not help but accept that at the very least the signs, clues and tips are being ignored because the resulting tragedy will further an agenda, at worst that they are being actively managed for same. The only other explanation would be that the ranks are filled with reams of intellectual nitwits and the whole edifices need to be torn down and rebuilt.
The latter is rebuffed by the fact that when the situation being investigated has to do with taxes, strict constructionists, patriots etc... they are ruthlessly efficient. Hmmmmmmm...
Attorney for the defense offered a deal today.
He’ll plead guilty if they take the DP off the table
Maybe it’s just the news saturation of these events, or perhaps I have a screw loose....but I’m sick of hearing about it.
So the perp, like all of the others, had emotional and mental issues, on drugs, all that and plenty more to feed the public’s need of wanting to know why. I don’t care why. Put him in prison or put him to death and stfu about it.
After the first FULL DAY of this news, I’m done. Yes, it’s awfull that 17 are dead. But this constant talking and bloviating will not bring them back.
I didnt know the victims or their families and they don’t know me. I can’t recall the news going crazy when my dear brother committed suicide or when my mom died of heart failure. I was just as grieved as the families that make the news because of a crazy gunman, but I don’t recall the sympathy of a nation.
I’m glad there was a hero coach, but I don’t want to hear about it for days on end...my BROTHER was a hero as well, and it was like pulling teeth to get a simple headstone from the government he served...
I’m sorry for those you have lost.
I don’t have a TV, so I’ve missed most of the coverage. But I was at the gym today and they have a row of TV monitors. I was amazed at the wall-to-wall coverage of the tragedy. The media is just salivating over these dead bodies. They are loving this awful event. It’s sick.
Some people do hear voices and too often believe that just because they hear them, they must follow them. People need to be educated that just because they may hear a voice in their head doesn’t mean that they should do what it tells them to do.
Contrary to popular thought, these voices often are real and are demonic in origin. Through drugs, messing with the occult, or other avenues people invite demons into their lives who then oppress or possess. Their voice can often then be heard by the one who has invited them, knowingly or not, into their lives.
It would be good to educate people as to the fact that if they ever become subject to hearing voices they should in no wise listen to them or follow them. At best they need to be delivered of them through Christ, or at least they need to try very hard to ignore them, while filling their minds up with goodness and light. Through this simple educational effort many lives may be saved.
Schizophrenia does appear around this age, it actually does.
Also, people on various drugs also can hear voices. There have been countless teens treated for mental illness only to be found out to have been on meth or cocaine the whole time. I am not making any dx for this killer, just noting some facts about mental illness in young people.
Check this guys' comic book stash.
How come the voices never say, “Shoot yourself...now” before killing a bunch of people?
Heheh. They’re demonic.
The school administration across the board are heavily involved in student mental health issues. So much so that they protect these troubled students from being institutionalized and arrested instead referring them to real medical doctors and the local police. They are the problem

NURCHURING THE AGENDA MOVERS
How did I miss this?
Seventeen life sentences served sequentially?
I know it does. What I meant is that when it first starts to appear there are signs. And I agree with you on the drugs. To be frank there are prescription drugs should be banned in this sex and age group. I would think commonsense would compel parents to have a teen/young adult tested for drugs if there are continuous behavioral problems at school and home.
One thing that is a bit off subject is that as part of their funding police departments in major cities or metropolitan areas should have a trained mental health expert who can help them evaluate a situation when they are called out on incidents such as the one they probably were with Cruz. A policeman is not trained to be an expert in mental illness and the odds of a person being a danger if the situation seems defused. This is especially true if parents and family members give assurance that everything is fine.
This expert would also be on hand for school officials and SRO when making a judgment if intervention besides arrest is necessary or even if both are required.
Agree. Tim Conway Jr had a guy on his show who is part of a group called START in the L.A. area where they get referrals of troubled kids and they get involved in their lives, developing mentors, hobbies, mental health checks, and caring to help get kids back on track. They are reporting miraculous turn around just be giving th kid someone in his corner. They listen to the problems the kid is having at school and home and DO SOMETHING to keep the kid feeling connected to the world. To show he is important, and listened to.
We need more programs like this because it does prevent the loss of hope. Youre right, this is not a job for Police.
