I don’t disagree that unintended consequences that might follow. But I can’t see how 17 dead people in a public high school is a win-win.

I’m saying that using the term “win-win” doesn’t apply when there are dead people. Your thought process isn’t flawed, but to be a win it wouldn’t involve dead teenagers.
