Me, too. And I had donated over 2 gallons previous to being on the restricted list. I wonder if they will ever lift that restriction. As an aside, I was was asked personally, from a friend whose husband had just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, to donate at a local hospital. I told my friend that I would donate, but she needed to make sure that I would be accepted, i e they could give my blood directly to her husband without going through the blood bank. It was a Kaiser instution and they said no. This was a decade ago, so maybe that rule no longer holds true.

I'd be willing to bet it is still the case. The whole blood bank thing is a huge racket from what I've seen. Your only 2 options in the Dallas Ft. Worth area are the Red Cross and Carter Bloodcare. Carter has pretty much taken over everything. Since I pretty much wouldn't spit on the Red Cross if they were on fire, that pretty much leaves Carter, which has gotten ever more intrusive with their policies over the years. i.e., one thing that they started doing a few years ago is forcing you to sign away rights to anything they might do with your blood. That is, they demand permission to use your blood in research and you have to sign a waiver that allows them to use it for that, and you have no rights regarding anything they might develop with said research. If you won't sign the waiver, you can't donate blood at all with them. All you get from donating are "points" for a lousy t-shirt, that you don't even get at the time. You have to go through their website to 'order' it.

The research thing ticked me off quite a bit, and their attitude, which is essentially that they are doing you a favor by allowing you to donate blood for which they can charge hundreds of dollars to the medical industry. Kinda turned me off. I had given 5 gallons, but don't even bother any more.
