Unhinged: One Year In, NYT Presidential Survey Ranks Trump as Worst Ever
Newsbusters.org ^ | February 19, 2018 | Scott Whitlock

In case it wasn’t clear, the New York Times really doesn’t like Donald Trump. The paper used President’s Day to reveal a new presidential survey finding — surprise! — Donald Trump is ranked as the worst ever. Worse than James Buchanan, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce and other perennial bottom dwellers. Again, this after just a year as president. And, of course, Barack Obama is listed as the eighth commander-in-chief.

Professors Brandon Rottinghaus and Justin S. Vaughn wrote: “James Buchanan, who was at the helm as the United States careened into civil war, was dislodged from his position as our nation’s worst president by our current president, Trump.”

How bad does this new Times survey sound? Nate Silver, a former contributor to the paper and FiveThirtyEight.com editor (which used to be part of the NYT), scolded his former employer:

(H/T to Mediaite for the tweet.) According to the Times, the votes came from the “170 members of the American Political Science Association’s Presidents and Executive Politics section.” Rottinghaus and Vaughn added: “[Trump's] Oval Office predecessor, Barack Obama, shot into the Top 10, up from 18th in the previous survey.”

Good news for conservatives though: Ronald Reagan finally cracked the top ten, landing at number nine.

Finally, ranking Trump as the worst president, while he’s in office, after just completing year one, makes about as much sense as including William Henry Harrison at all in the poll. He died in 30 days and never had an opportunity to be either good or bad.

20 Feb: The American Spectator: A Further Perspective: The Economy Is Booming
by Gary Shapiro
Why Americans should thank President Trump.
I did not support Donald Trump for president. I recall arguing with some of my pro-Trump Consumer Technology Association (CTA) board members in 2016 — smart business leaders who were convinced that as president, Trump would drive U.S. economic growth. I was skeptical and focused on Trump’s personal, divisive attacks.

But within hours of Trump winning the election and the Republicans holding on to the Senate, I went on record saying Trump would grow the economy by “knowing when to step back, cut burdensome rules and let businesses innovate and thrive.” I also believed — correctly — that he would view the stock market as a “real-time measure of his economic success.” Since then, I have remained bullish, based on a growing global economy and the actionable steps President Trump has taken to make the U.S. economy better.

During President Trump’s first year in office, the Dow Jones Industrial average gained 31 percent and the S&P 500 grew 23 percent. Unemployment is down to 4.1 percent. The number of Americans working full-time has grown to a record 154 million, and we just added 200,000 jobs in January. Consumer confidence is high. Inflation and gas prices remain low.

It is a commonly held belief in Washington that the president gets too much blame and too much credit for the health of the economy. But in this case, I believe President Trump deserves much of the credit for the nation’s economic success. Here’s why...READ ON

LBJ wins this one—not even close.

—Participated in a murder conspiracy to kill his predecessor
—Escalated a no-win war causing untold death and misery halfway around the world
—Launched a phony war on poverty that has turned the country’s inner cities into permanent ghettos
—Had sex with his leading biographer—no “me too” from this Harvard whore

They had to do it early to keep the truth of Obama from ‘clouding” the idiot respondents’ pea brains - and before the greatness of Trump becomes undeniable....

Beg to differ. Any survey that does not have Woodrow Wilson as the worst president ever is bogus:
- He was a fascist, racist. He segregated the federal work force and the military.
-He established the income tax. Enough said.
- He signed legislation creating the federal reserve.
- he got the US into WW I which we had no business being in.
- He advocated the establishment of the League of Nations the pre-cursor to the UN.
- he openly advocatd socialism over the rights of the individual. He did not want a republic but instead wanted a democracy.
-He created the first US government propaganda department ( The committee on Public Information - Much admired by Goebbels)
-At Wilsons urging Congress passed a Sedition Act which banned free speech in a time of war. The DOJ under Wilson created the " American Protective League" which was in essence a precursor to the Gestapo. About 170,000 were arrested for "failing to demonstrate their patriotism"
- He got Bernard Baruch to run the " War Industires Service Board" which essentially nationalized the US economy. It was characterized by rationing and price fixing.
- His failure to restrain the Europeans at the Treaty of Versailles after WW I led to the imposition of impossible peace terms on Germany and led directly to WW II.

The one thing Wilson and Johnson have in common is that they were both teachers before they got into politics confirming the old saw that some ideas are so stupid only an academic would believe them.

Virginia has the distinction of providing the US with the best ( George Washington - by a country mile) and the worst President - Wilson.

Funny, my bottom three are LBJ, Obama and Carter. Doesn’t really matter which order.

No question they were bad but in the context of each of their time, Wilson still takes the cake in my book.
