Yeah I was thinking there has to be some people in that there building that psychos won’t KNOW either way, whether they have a gun or not.
Hell, some students would be more of a variable than teachers.
I’ve been to a range, like I said, about 18 times. I wouldn’t count on me to take someone out.
Not because of fear. Seen too much in life to be afraid of dying.
But simply because I’m not that good.
Unless the shooter lets me set up a pulpit to lean on and then give me time to aim, with an ex marine adjusting my arm :)
And let me correct the fear thing.
OF COURSE i would feel some fear.
Just not enough to run.
Or affect my aim if i was any good. But i’m not :)

It occurs to me that the police in the schools could be given a second task: dealing with unruly students.
(Don’t tell anybody but I am not that great anymore. I used to shoot in completions and was close to getting “Master” at high power rifle and could hold my own with a pistol but the eyes started going. Now whatever I focus on everything else is so blurry my group size has gone to hell.)
We can then use the publik skrewel buildings to house all the people made homeless by stupid, liberal government policies.
Ditto and fortunately, my DIL is home schooling our grands. Made the final decision last week. Alleluia!

Seems to me what matters is not the proficiency (above some minimum, most important is not accuracy but knowing when NOT to pull the trigger) but just the publicized fact that the school is NOT a “gun free zone”. Even a school shooter who plans on suicide at the end is not going to want to be eternally humiliated by being cut short be returning fire.
It reminds me of sailing. When I first learned to sail I thought I “knew what I was doing” so I started competing in races. That is a quick way to discover how little you really know. Competition is good not so much in that it humiliates you but it brings you into contact with people who really DO know what they are doing and you can identify just who it is you should be learning from. Shooting is like that and good competitors are generally pretty gracious with good advice.

I think you are right. They would prove the assumption correct.
There are actually VERY FEW crazy folks who are crazy enough to not care about getting shot by someone else, even if they plan on offing themselves at the end.
Couldn't agree more strongly. People will get away with whatever you let them.
Especially if the idea was to “go out in a blaze of glory” only to be eternally turned into the “schmuck who got curbstomped for being an idiot”.
Yes, enforce the rules. Allow teachers to CC after adequate traininng. And reopen mental hospitals. Train more people in mental health and don’t make it a going to jail offense to report someone rightly or wrongly.
Make sure there is no mental health history in any gun buyer and make the penalty harsh for anyone who buys for someone else or gives a gun to someone who shouldn’ have it (an untrained person who refuses to go through the training.)
The public doesn’t need to know if, or how many school employees are armed. We’ll work on the rest.
Actually I agree with this: Forcing good kids to be at the mercy of these bums and malcontents and deliquents is the problem. They need to be put in special schools with drill sergeants and work details.

These problems began in the 1970’s in Texas. The Amish of our town tore up the rest rooms and terrorized the other kids so badly the white kids left school to go home and go to the bath room. The Amish tore the sinks off the walls and uprooted the toilets and the administration did NOTHING. PC was well enforced.
I was relieved when they categorically refused to attend school and then went on and got their GEDS. It was a very hard time for all of us and did not work to the advantage of the kids. But at least they didn’t die.
You know yourself and your abilities (at this time) better than anyone. You also have the good sense not to volunteer at this time. Good, adult decision making!

OTOH, when my wife decided to get her Texas CHL, (at the same time I did -- after moving back to God's Country from MA) I let her shoot my smooth-shooting HK P7 M8 9mm -- while I shot a tiny, subcompact, hard-kicking "backup" .380.
I trained her, but she had only about 100 rounds of practice -- total -- when she shot her TX CHL qual test.
I shot three rounds short of perfect -- and she shot within ten points of me.

I'm very well trained and with thousands of rounds of experience. But, my daughter carries a featherweight, double-action .38 short-barreled revolver -- and I have a hard time even "hitting the paper" with it. (The long, hard trigger pull and light weight "throws me off"...)

Actually my aim and hitting the target is very good. I’ve used an M4, a Glock, and an scar.
But I don’t think the shooter is going to let me stand up and get myself set at the window, take aim, have the ex-marine help me position myself and then shoot LOL
