They finally woke up to the fact that the violent revolution of the proletariat to “throw off their chains” would never happen. Instead, they began decades-long efforts to undermine everything and have been very successful at it. Incrementally destroying 2A is just one small piece of their aims - education, healthcare, the press, religion, parenting, abortion, entertainment, energy, communications technology — they are beavering away at all of it and have largely succeeded.
