We'd get the little 4-packs in our c-rats.

Smokers would trade the rock hard chocolate bars to the nonsmokers for the cigs.

LOL! Went to Orange Tx once to scavenge parts and pieces off some old Navy ships getting ready to be scrapped. Found some WWII green pack Lucky Strikes in their emergency life boat supplies. This was in '69 so they may have been at least 25 yrs old. Yeah, they were harsh. 🚬👹🇺🇸

In the late 1960's our family doctor (in Columbus, OH) kept TWO cartons of Marlboros on the credenza behind his office desk.

btw, I quit smoking in 1990 after many years of a 3-pack-a-day habit.
I still consider myself a drug addict when it comes to nicotine, lol.

Dude, I was smoking in a computer room. In today’s world, that is just insane.

Part of me had hoped the party of grave-dancing would find using children in this way would be a bridge too far, but the rest of me knew they didn’t have it in them to be tactful, decent people.
The reason is simple; socialism is cynicism. Cynicism towards society and concomitant faith in government.

That combination plays into journalism’s sweet spot. Journalism is fundamentally about bad news - and that can take the form of people and institutions failing society - and also government failing to do enough to prevent said failures. The failings of society very easily translate into goals for more government.

If you give up a piece of your rights when someone abuses theirs; then soon you will have no rights and the freedom they protect.

To paraphrase Carolla, there was a time when you could smoke in restaurants.

The East German Communists called it "The Artichoke Principle" - peel off one leaf at a time until you have nothing left.

I saw this in real life when I worked at Brown & Williamson (cigarette makers) in Macon, GA in the '90s. At first our programming section was on a rented floor in a GEICO building. They had a No Smoking policy for their staff, so those who did came up to our floor and smoked in the stairwell. The some pressure was applied and our stairwell was off limits. Then they had to smoke outside the building, so they hovered around the entrance. That projected "A Bad Image" for GEICO, so they had to move 50 yards away. Evidently that was too short a range, so they couldn't smoke at all on GEICO property.

When we'd go out for lunch, we'd see those employees a couple of hundred yards off, smoking near the treeline. I would imagine that, at the end, if you were a smoker, you either lost the job you had there or were not hired.

Exactly. Once we have acquiesced to “Mantal Health” the only remaining step is “your are crazy if you own firearms.”

LOL! Kinda. I probably smoked for a total of 50 out of my 70 years. Mrs. rktman quit a couple years ago when she got a cold and as it was clearing up she just didn’t come out in the garage for one. Last year, for her birthday, I told her I would quit. That being one you CAN NOT go back on so when I finished my last one on the day of her birthday, I just didn’t buy anymore. Basically cold turkey. Some folks can do that, others need chantix or patches or something. Thinking about seeing the hurt and disappointment on her face if I lit one up was enough to keep me clear. And, I do a little pickin’ at jam nights around town where people smoke so I deliberately put myself in bad places to make sure I could hold out. Do I still want one? Yeah. But after this long I’d probably get super dizzy and might even hurl. I was doing a pack + when I quit. I don’t think I got too cranky in the process. At 70, will it make much difference? Who knows. I do know I’m saving $$$$ and no more hacking smokers cough every day. Hope you have much success in the attempt if you go for it.
