Beijing is stepping up efforts to inject party ideology into student life. Some Chinese students are crying foul.
When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Washington on Sept. 24, 2015 on a state visit, hundreds of Chinese students lined the streets for hours, carrying banners and flags to welcome him....Except it wasn’t entirely spontaneous...The Chinese Embassy paid students to attend and helped organize the event.... Embassy officials communicated with students via WeChat, a Chinese messaging app, during the event and into the night, responding to messages as late as 3 a.m.
According to a Chinese student at George Washington University who attended the event, participants each received about $20 for their effort, distributed through the CSSA a few months later.
This wasn’t an isolated example of paid political mobilization. A similar arrangement had occurred in February 2012, when Xi visited Washington as vice chairman. In that case, it took almost a year for the embassy to transfer the promised funds to the George Washington CSSA
While many countries, including the United States, fund educational activities abroad, the Chinese government’s direct support for, and control over, student groups appears to be unique. Beijing’s influence over these groups is also beginning to raise questions and concerns among students on American campuses, who fear they will be accused of being agents of espionage. The growing ties are also concerning U.S. government officials, who are wary of China’s political and economic reach in the United States.

I think a LOT of Americans jumped with both feet, onto the China train a long time ago. Given that “a long time ago” in matters of China, is about thirty years now.
When China was poor, did not have a military to speak of, did not have an economy to speak of. And had one huge communist government.
FAILING TO SEE, that in one short generation, through completely shutting out American competitors, and selling everything to America, those circumstances would change (dramatically).
Now China is rich. Their military is becoming quite competent thank you. Their economy is now as big as our own, and yet ... they still have one communist government.
Which now supplies practically EVERYTHING FOR SALE in America.
Just one generation.
Not good, America.
Think of the Chinese not so much as communists, but as Chinese being Chinese and using the communist platform to their advantage. The rank and file are happier than pigs in slop - they’ve had a 20 fold increase in their standard of living in recent years.
The peasants have been flushed from the countryside, so no worrying about their revolting.
No problems from the mega-rich either - life is good, but they know if they cross the system, they can be whacked in a New York (er, ah - Beijing) minute.
Yes indeed...I agree. As soon as China opened for business Corporate America jumped in fast and furious. China needed the technology and Western Companies saw huge profits to be made.....what they didn’t plan on was everything we brought there by our people was “copied” and not long before China was manufacturing it themselves. Nothing was done without the Chinese “paying attention” as they were instructed. And here were are!

How many more Watergate movies/specials will Hollywood turn out until they produce a movie about Tienanmen Square? Why won’t Hollywood tackle this important subject? Oh, they are busy with weather change, etc.

Oh absolutely...but you ask our leaders what they know about Chinese History and they don’t know squat...let alone our own....they’re dealing with a people having a well established Chinese mindset that never forgets their History. ..because for them living is all about handing the next generation what they have attained to maintain and sustain their nation (Empire)...they have no sense of a heavenly Kingdom they’ll be going to as we do....here and now is their game.

They don’t need to turn them out......China’s buying up the studios etc. or haven’t you noticed seeing and hearing Asian faces on every commercial, TV and movie now being produced we see every day.

Why do you suppose you no longer see any movies with Richard Gere? He was quite popular.
The thing is, he spoke out about issues in China.
Now he is basically shut out. Really.
Unless they’e associated with the leadership they’ve simply cut their folks loose here to buy, cheat, steal, live and rape whatever they want from this county. Their people are not important as persons....simply a commodity to utilize.

Agree. Just said a similar thing on another thread. China would still be a backwater if it wasn’t for the help of the USA. We created the monster that has destroyed our manufacturing economy.
