The host of America's Most Wanted, who also helped create a national registry for sex offenders, says the same system is needed for mentally ill people looking to buy guns.
We got John Walsh Saturday at LAX and asked what he made of Florida's new gun law -- in which the age limit to purchase guns was raised to 21 ... and teachers can now be armed.
He says it's a step in the right direction, but also thinks arming teachers is the wrong way to protect schools from potential shooters -- he wants trained pros on the ground instead.
Here's the most interesting tidbit ... John apparently believes a national registry logging people with serious mental illness needs to be implemented for would-be gun owners.

A psychiatrist can identify a “mental illness” in everyone.
Think you need a gun to protect yourself? You’re obviously paranoid. Permission denied!
How about people doing their jobs, why don’t we start with that?
No...But how about a ban for anyone on psychotropic drugs? Every single mass school shooter was on them...some on 3 at a time. Nicolas Cruz aunt says he was on them too but the media refuses to follow up and anger their #1 advertisers.
The people that the left are labeling insane are the people who expected the FBI and the Broward County Sherrifs Department to do their job. Funny how that works.
What we need is the construction of Federally-administered mental facilities or the funding of block grants to enable the establishment of state-administered mental facilities to institutionalize the mentally-ill. Then we need laws to require the confinement of mentally-ill people. In other words, a reversion to the days when crazy people used to live out their days in mental hospitals as guests of the state. Such people would, of course, not be allowed to have access to sharp objects, let alone firearms.
Putting every registered demonrat on his list would be a good start.
People are one day going to revolt against everyone in authority for the constant whittling away of our freedoms for one whiny reason or another.
What good would such a law be when a government, like the Obama administration and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, incentivizes not reporting such illness, as well as crimes, for municipalities and school districts to get more federal dollars?
Maybe we need an Uber for firearms....
We need Congress to rescind all that so called religion and state crap, make it a punishable crime to forbid the Bible and prayer in EVERY aspect of public schools and make it a punishable offense for being offended .... by ANYTHING.
Great. Kill the 2nd amendment and the 4th at the same time.
Psychiatric diagnoses are based on symptom complexes (disorders) and don’t generally have biological/pathological markers like infectious disease, neurological, cardiac diseases,GI etc. Therefore, the psychiatric diagnoses can change on the basis of a consensus of “experts” and not necessarily because of an advancement in diagnostic capability (imaging studies, pathology, laboratory) . For example, homosexuality was once considered to be a disorder, but now it’s not.
This makes psychiatry uniquely vulnerable to pressures from cultural Marxism and totalitarian politicians and bureaucrats.
So, if we have any faith in the efficacy of psychiatric treatment, we should demand that these foolish ideas be dismissed. These types of action would undoubtedly lead those that want to keep their guns as well as those that want to retain some medical privacy to avoid mental health treatment, until it’s too late if course.
Sorry for your loss and I cannot imagine Mr. Walsh but you lose me when you advocate taking away rights and are blind to the real answers.
He was on a doctor's appointment because he has chronic pain. At one point, he made remark that he "just wanted it to be over". He was talking about the pain, not ending his life. The doctor steps out, is gone for awhile, and when he comes back in, he's flanked by two cops and two proverbial men in white jackets. It was all, "Don't worry, they just want to talk to you." When saying that it was all a misunderstanding, they told him repeatedly that he can tell that to the doctor down at "the center" and he would be out in an hour, they're just doing this because they have to.
When he got there, just picture the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He never did get to talk to a doctor or anybody in authority. Any time he tried to talk to anybody that looked like a doctor or nurse, they just told him tersely that he'll never get out of there if he doesn't improve his attitude. There was super-annoying elevator music going 24/7 that was too loud. There was no TV, nothing to read, nothing to do but look at the 4 walls and talk to whoever you could. He was looking for a way to escape but it was locked-down tight like a jail and everybody that worked there was pissy. Think of Ben Stiller in Happy Gilmore. 72-hour evaluation nothing, it's nothing but punishment. The place's entire purpose is to make you crazy(er). I would've wound up in jail after choking somebody that works there. This is what liberals want for anybody that doesn't toe the line and you're crazy if you think they don't.
“...system is needed for mentally ill people...”
Unworkable .... registry would be filled up with Progressives and MSM news readers and writers.
Otherwise...no thank you.
Who gets to decide who’s mentally ill?
Pssst...John:
Wouldn’t Homosexuals, Bi-Sexuals, Trannies, and other freaks qualify as MENTALLY ILL?
If not why not? Up until 1973 the APA qualified them as such.
What's the point?
