The White House says it "stands in solidarity" with "its closest ally" the UK and supports its decision to expel 23 Russian diplomats.
PM Theresa May said the diplomats would be expelled after Moscow refused to explain how a Russian-made nerve agent was used on a former spy in the UK.
Moscow continues to deny any involvement in the attack.

Yes, they’re cackling it up. We’re drifting toward another European war.
Putin is orchestrating this. His responses are increasingly aggressive. He is sure to threaten the use of his nuclear forces. Dominance by fear is his objective.
UK, isn’t that where that Fake Dossier came from?
As you have been told, keep the narrative on course, and like the Lusitania, we will have our Jihad.
Helping them out 2x in the last century was enough. Let them go it alone, we have enough problems here and they’ve proven their not worth it.
I have a hard time believing that if the Russian Government wanted someone dead that they would kill said person in one of the few ways that would point ONLY and DIRECTLY at them. I do not believe that they (or anyone else, for that matter)are so stupid as to have done this. Why not shoot them? Run them over? Use a poison or nerve agent that is not DIRECTLY tied them? Sorry. Not buying it. This is just another war drum beating by the globalists.
The neo-liberal West once again demonstrates its own perfidity while claiming to stand for the democratic rule of law.
Theresa May will cling to this fictional account as if her very life depended on it...because it does. Without a London based version of ‘Blame Russia’ both Brexit and the dowdy Mrs. May’s career are finished.
The French had the correct take on this story yesterday, officially calling it ‘fantasy politics’.
Yes, MI6’s 007 is a liberal lowlife.
Now Trump slaps on more sanctions against Russia, if Germany, France and England skipped the World Cup, that would be a debacle with teams like Honduras and Iceland competing to be champion.
Did the russians do it? Of course, ...it's a proven fact the Russian Government interfered in the 2016 US Presidential election causing Hillary Clinton to lose, this is unprecedented and never done by Western Powers.
It's NATO that's been aggressive, not Russia. All the ballyhoo'd plane encounters have been much closer to Russian borders than American.
We started the trouble in the Ukraine by helping overthrow a democratically elected, but Russophile, government. That the part of the Ukraine with Russian heritage wanted no part of that should not surprise folks.
Whether or not Russia was behind the attack on spies in London, their request for the evidence is a polite response, not an aggressive one. The simple fact that the spies are not dead suggests that Russian professionals did not do this.
Dominance by fear? Like when we forced Libya to give up nukes by dropping bombs, and they had him killed anyway? No wonder NK wants nukes. Dominance by fear is clearly NATOs policy. It's been the policy of all empires, "We have got the Maxim, and they have not".
Stands in solidarity with pro Hillary UK makes Trump look like a crazy McCain.
It would seem that there are opinions contrary to those of the Putin crowd.
NOT OVER Theresa May warns Putin the UK will go further if Russia doesnt stop provocations as leaders stand together with unprecedented statement. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5815476/russia-expel-british-diplomats-putin-theresa-may-spy-sergei-skripal/
