Why didn't he just go to the study hall?
You’ve obviously never been required to go to study hall.
It’s a form of punishment.
I wonder how many kids would have showed up if this event was held on a Saturday?
He should’ve gone to the gun range, and REALLY earned a public school suspension.
Why should he be forced to miss his science, math, or whatever classes for the day while the school orchestrates a protest for political purposes?
What if only one student wanted to go protest? Should they cancel classes?
His teacher and all the rest should have continued teaching.
Why wasn't the teacher there doing his.her job?
It seems pretty clear, to me anyhow. He was making a statement that politics did not belong in school (I happen to think that is a great position and share it).
His statement I believe is that everyone should stay in class, continue their course study and not have the school disrupted by national politics.
He was protesting, I think, the school administrators that took an action he did not agree with so he chose not to participate in their decision.
I've seem much more odd positions to protest about. I'm with that kid but you raise a good point.
Probably because the study hall was most likely code for “See what crap you can get away with while the monitor ignores your unacceptable behavior.O It sure as heck no longer means “Taking time to study.”
You can also be sure the “lack of supervision” was BS, because we know it is not possible to properly supervise those students who were protesting.
Because he was in class.
Maybe that was the way he was protesting the protesting.
I know, that’s the stupid thing, unless the study hall was considered a counter protest and he was trying to remain non-political.
Having him go sit in a study hall and do what he wants (play video games on his phone or whatever) while the other students get to go outside with teachers and engage in that CRAP on time that we pay the teachers to TEACH and kids to be TAUGHT is an irritant to me, and it should be to all of us.
Yeah. He could have been a sheep and gone outside in the sun and just hung out. Or he could have gone into the study hall and stared at the wall.
If it had been me, I hated high school with a passion. But I went, every day, because I would have had to answer to my parents if I hadn't. Never skipped a day, ever.
If I had been forced to choose between those two things, I would have been angry about it. If I didn't say (and probably wouldn't have since I was so introverted) "I am angry about having to be here to begin with. That I am forced to waste my time on the taxpayer dime really pisses me off", I would have most certainly felt it.
I think his issue is more than "having to go to study hall". If they sue, and there is a GoFundMe, I am paying.
