You have that exactly right. It will be taxpayer money defending their illegal actions, and it will be taxpayer money that will pay any damages they cause. That is why public school officials are quick to step right up and violate students' rights because they know that it will be no skin off their butts if they acted illegally. However, if they violate federal civil rights where they can be held personally responsible and pay damages out of their own pockets will they sit up and take notice. Been there, done that.
