TBH, the listener could have been so flabbergasted that they thought he might have been referring to something else besides taking up arms against the president. (Though, I’m not ruling out the guy was a moron.)
You might be right. Although, I once served on jury duty with a Korean immigrant who didn’t know what the 5th amendment was. When told, he replied “that’s stupid.”
